I can tell you that I save a bunch of money by simply not giving a **** what other people do/have, nor
do I care what I do/have.

I certainly don't buy something that's junk/not worth the money.
My ally bank just increased their high yield savings account to 1.85%...

If you can deal with a fixed deposit term, a lot of CDs available through Charles Schwab are paying over 2%, and many of those CDs have 6 month maturity dates.
My guess is that other brokerages will have similar FDIC-insured CD offerings at 2%+.
Yeah most CDs now are at least 2%. Though I don't see 6mo maturity CD go that high....there are ones above 2.5 for like 9-13mo terms.
I'll have to look into those as well...
