Billing errors in your favor

Let's say a utility/phone/cable company was improperly posting payments to your account that you didn't make. Does anyone know if there is a limit on how far back they can go if they catch the error?

I'm pretty sure your statement has a note printed on it: "Call xxx-xxx-xxxx in case of billing errors." This probably counts as a billing error.

When you do call, have the foresight to log the date/time and representative name, just in case they don't do anything and later on they pull some negative crap on you.
