RX 6800 is going to smack the shit out of the Nvidia 3070

Extra performance with an Ryzen 5000 and 500 chipset. Access to the GPU's RAM.

Wow, AMD is going to actually compete on the high end this time around.

Just might be all team red on my next build. Gonna wait for independent benchmarks first, supply is so constrained at the moment anyway. Good luck getting a 3080.

AMD has arrived finally in both CPU and GPU market. RIP Nvidia and Intel.

6800XT looks damn impressive at its price point, slightly faster than 3080 and lower TDP and more efficient as well.

And of course we know Ryzen 5000 continues to beat Intel's ass.

Looks like my next desktop will be all AMD...Ryzen 5000 + RX 6000 GPU. Very cool how you can use the Ryzen 5000+AMD GPU to have that GPU RAM access. And this is me who has owned Intel+NVIDIA for the past 12+ years....

The RTX 3080 and 3090 were basically paper launches...no one can get one unless you pay way more from scalpers....AMD is now trading blows with NVIDIA in GPU too and is better in some metrics.

Competition is good for all consumers.

RTX 3070 supposedly in stock at stores tomorrow....will Nvidia adjust pricing???

I'm waiting for more tests/benchmarks but AMD is looking like the better buy in both CPU and GPU arena

how are AMD cards for streaming?

I keep hearing how Nvidia is better because of the NVENC encoder which provides minimal loss of performance.

but i have no idea what im talking about.

I care about them FPS at 1440p/4k.

Streamers can go pound sand. IDGAF.

Youtubers and streamers can probably shell out for nvidia and they prolly can write part of that purchase cost off as tax-deductible anyway if its considered a business expense...I'm sure lot of them do....

Yeah NVENC is a better encoder, I also really like what they've done with Nvidia Broadcast. I use the Broadcast app (formerly RTX Audio) when I'm working from home, I run my mic and headphones through it so I can listen to lo-fi music in the background or run my Roomba but the person I'm talking to on the phone through my desktop VOIP program can't hear it at all. I also use it to filter their audio too which means I don't hear the phone ringing when I call someone I just hear their voice when they pick up and I DON'T HEAR HOLD MUSIC ANYMORE! Love it. I've played with the AI green screen a little bit, it works great but I don't have a webcam.

14 > 7, therefore Intel > AMD

Imagine buying an Intel chip over AMD in 2020

They never left 14nm for desktop.

the i9-10900K is a 10 core 20 thread CPU.

wait what?? that is a YUGE jump in performance.

the 5600X has like 23% lead in avg fps over the 10900K

Don't even think Rocket Lake could make up that difference.

What's cool also is the AMD GPUs and CPUs will work together Zen 3 able to access GPU memory and all that stuff...and AMD GPU coming right up to Nvidia for performance also....so it's definitely Team Red for me in my next build (and this is me who has had Intel/Nvidia rig for 10+ years)

Maybe Ryzen 9 5900x + RX 6800 XT ???

That has always been my approach (high-end, not top-end), then your system will keep you happy for years without ever feeling constrained.

Focus mainly on how you will be using it - productivity, gaming? My desktop is mainly gaming so I end up focusing on graphics. 1440p, 120hz, 100+ fps, ray-tracing etc. then see what similar setups to that benchmark at.

Damn, you are going to be absolutely blown away. Remember to get a good monitor to fully exploit your new hardware too.

Excatly.

Get high-end but not ultra top end because that I think is best value for money at this time.

I mean unless I won the powerball/mega millions jackpot...then I'll go for all outcraziness....but otherwise agreed.

Yeah my monitor super old too..basically 1080p gaming still...but yes, will definitely need to upgrade monitor to actually take advantage of the higher end hardware....not sure if the 6800XT is enough to drive 4K 120Hz to over 100FPS....but probably at least 1440p and 120hz monitor....

Daaaaaaaaaang, is 120Hz basiclly old news now???

Lol I remember 1080p at 60Hz was like the gold standard back in 10 years ago....

What about 4K, 240Hz, and 100+FPS!!! (Is this even possible? 3090 SLI?)

Nice monitors are expensive AF....

Nah, i think 4K and 1440p are around 144hz.

1080p are up to like 360hz, but 240hz is fine since there is minimal difference going up to 360hz

What's a good brand/model for monitors?

I'm looking at 30"+ size, 1440p, 120Hz, low lag/latency....

FYI if you go Zen 3 make sure you get 4 sticks of RAM not 2, using only 2 reduces performance by about 10%

I know that sounds crazy, no it’s not because of reduced ram. This explains it

Ryzen loves fast RAM. Now with Zen 3 it’s not just that, more helps too.

Will watch this later, Gamers Nexus is excellent. I like how they’ve been transparent about shady manufacturers trying to bribe them.

Any idea why they would want to do that? I thought they had switched from Nvidia to a custom SOC designed by Tesla? Is this something else?

Since AMD Smart Access Memory is just a specification of PCIe, Nvidia will start doing the same thing.

What's the over/under on AMD blocking Nvidia from using this PCIe feature on thier motherboards and making a feature that should work on any GPU only work with their AMD GPUs?
