Help! 03 RSX making squealing noise.

I've owned my RSX for about 10 months now. It has never had a single problem until now. About 2 days ago I noticed when I accelerate it starts making a loud squealing noise. When I let off the gas the noise stops, or it will kind of settle and go away or quiet down when I'm going a steady speed. My first thought was a loose belt or something, but really I dont know much about engines. I had my friend who works at a body shop look at it and he said the belts are fine. We found where we think the noise is coming from, but neither of us know really what that part of the engine is or does.

If anyone could tell me what that part of the engine is or does, that would help out alot! Really it doesnt look like it does anything to me (ha), so anything around that area that could make that noise?

Thanks,
Kayla.

Well, the squealing has actually stopped since I made this post. I still have no idea what it was, but it just came and went, hopefully it won't come back

But anyway, I've never posted my baby on here before,

The part that you have the arrow to is the shock tower. It's where your front strut assembly bolts to the vehicle chassis. As far as the squeal, I've had that in my RSX as well when I used to daily drive it. It would be just some condensation on the belt surface and slipping when on a pulley. I would ensure that belt tension is up to snuff.

If the problem comes back, it might be the gasket between the A pipe and the converter pipe. There is an RSX service bulletin for this exact issue. If I can remember the number I will post it. The squeal only happens on accel, and is caused by a faulty gasket.
