Good buy?? 2005 rsx type s

Hey guys looking to buy a used RSX with 104,000 miles. Guy was asking for 10,500. I got him down to 8,000. Thing is that it needs new taillights, bumper, side skirts, and probably a new paint job. Inside its immaculate, and everything under the hood seems good. Drove well. Also has new tires and original rims are in excellent condition.

Let me know if you think its worth it with the costs involved to fix it up to look basically new.

Thanks

tailights are a few hundred to replace, headlights the same, side skirts would have to be purchased and paint matched, OEM bumper is quite difficult to find, original rims are pretty desirable

My concern is why they would repaint the whole car without replacing the bumper or the lights or side skirt,

what condition is the title? check the carfax

Thanks for the reply. The problem with the tail lights is water/ condensation in both... But I just talked to the owner and he just ordered gaskets for them... So I may not need them.

I am saying it needs to be repainted because I need to replace those items. Cracks in them basically. Unless it might be cheaper to just fix. Either way I think it needs a new coat of paint.

If I can't find OEM parts I'll settle for afternaket as long as it looks OEM and is not crap quality.

Car has been in one minor accident... Was from previous owner... Problem is Carfax doesnt show what it is... Whatever it was it was fixed as it was cosmetic.

No other issues on Carfax.

Trust me you want an OEM bumper or the headlights and everything will be just unmatched enough to annoy you. lol.

The gaskets are definitely an easy fix, especially for the 05-06, thats cool.
The headlights are known to peel and fade, there isn't really a good aftermarket replacement unfortunately.

Side skirts, if you can, look for the type-r or the ASPEC, they look the best and the OEM fitment is outstanding, the mugen sideskirts also look nice, but make sure not to get replicas because the fitment is horrid.

check underneath the car and make sure the core support, control arms, and subframe aren't damaged, especially if you aren't sure about the extent of the accident damage.

Another thing to check is the power steering pump hoses and reservoir to make sure there isn't a leak, also find out when the last valve adjustment was performed.

good luck!

just bought the car last night.

it looks like there is a cover over the side moldings/sideskirt and the bumper as well. Once i took them off it looks brand new underneath... is this typical of all rsx type S cars or was this just done by the previous owner? basically does the body look any different on a base model rsx then a type s.

Either way i am happy and have alot of mods planned. I will start a new thread with pics and progress. Already bought a few things.

what kind of cover? like clear bra?

the type S will have a wing, 6 speed transmission, higher rev limit, 30+ more hp, nice type-S wheels and badges,

there more but I was just naming the most obvious

No, not a clear bra... like a molded piece of sorts... that goes over the original piece.

IE.. my 2012 SE has an underbody thats screwed under the front bumper... very nice, gives an agressive look.. but it came from the factory that way...

from what you just told me looks like it was added later.. .maybe to give the aspec look?

but it doesnt look so great, plus its cracked (bumper... just like the side skirt parts that i took off).

I am planning on making it look A-SPEC.. but doing it right... with this forum's help of course

the condensation in the tail lights is a very common problems for the rsx...you can always pick up another set for about $200 and lots of shops sells gaskets to prevent condensation from happeneing again...
