04 RSX base model sluggish in 2nd gear

Wife's car. She loves it. Never given us a problem. K$N air filter was cleaned recently, 80000 miles. runs perfectly smooth so I doubt it's the plugs. It just doesn't seem like it has 160 hp anymore esp in second. Has a little more get up when I switch to multironic shift. Well maintained personally. Thoughts?

Valve adjustment time perhaps? Or maybe a good old seafoam clean will do the trick.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually going to replace the plugs. I think it's time from what I read on forums even though the manual says to replace at 150000. There's a very slight flux in RPM's while in park. Also I just did a 3x drain and refill of the trans and the wife said she can tell a bit of a difference. The fluid was'nt burnt but was red/brown so it was time. I hadn't though of Seafoam. I'm always hesitant on engine additives. Or does it go in the gas tank? Prob time for a fuel filter too.

I know I'm late to the party, but yes, I would do plugs and ATF change w/ the new Honda ATF-DW1. For plugs, stick with the NGK Laser Iridium PN# IZFR6K11. You will not have to gap these plugs as they are already pre-gapped to .044". Also check tire pressures as well. Make sure they're up to at least 35 psi. I know the door card may state differently, but when I worked at the dealer and all the Honda/Acura cars that come in and out of my shop for service always leaves with 35 PSI in the tires unless otherwise state by owner (and I'm one of those owners that'll say something crazy like 32 front and 40 rear)

It's a slow car. If you look at the gear ratio between manual and auto, you can see why auto is/seems so slow. It's geared for fuel economy. 2nd gear ratio is something like 1.5:1 whereas manual's is 1.88.

The RPM drop from 1st to 2nd on the auto is like the 2nd to 3rd gear drop on the 5MT. Loose like 1500-2000 rpm and well out of the powerband.

Thanks for the replies. I did a 3X ATF drain and fill with DW1 and she already noticed a difference. I bought the stock NGK Laser Iridiums plugs and will be doing that next.
