what rear sway bar is available

my sister who knows nothing or cares for cars has a 06 tsx and i slapped in progress 22mm rear sway bar and she loves it. now she wouldnt want to drive a car without an upgraded one.

my girlfriend has a 2013 ilx 2.0 and i want to surprise her with one. im sure she'll appreciate the extra ride stability like my sister and i do. i drive an 01 integra with a 22mm rsb and she gets scared when i approach turns at higher than normal speeds but once the turns are over, she is amazed how well the car stays balance throughout the turn.

this leads to my questions:
1) is the frame strong enough to support a thicker rear sway bar or would i need a subframe brace?
2) what rear sway bars are available on the 2013 ilx? please mention the following:
brand
thickness
estimate cost
do i need to modify anything for it to fit or is it plug and play?

thanks! ***typed on phone, please ignore typos!***

Apparently our rear end-links are "race car" strong. I couldn't tell you from personal experience..

Progress has a sway bar for the 9th gen Civic and Eibach has a sway bar for it.. both should work. The Progress one is supposedly better. Speed has the Eibach rear-bar and loves it. I think it's like <140 nothing else needed to go with it

My bar rubs against the exhaust, so I'd hold off or get a 2013 Si rear sway bar. It's only 1mm smaller than the eibach and, if you buy the bushings and endlinks, has oem reliability. I may opt for that so I can get rid of the rattling.

I think I may have installed it incorrectly. It otherwise fits perfectly....you can install the bars upside down apparently.

Just go to a honda parts retailer, order a rear sway bar, endlinks, and bushings from a 2013 Civic Si, install, and enjoy.

I can link to a thread with more info on another forum if you're still uncertain...inbox me.

I dont want to buy a rsb if for example the ILX is 17mm, the Si is 18 and the eibach is 19mm...

i've installed a few rsb's .. in my maxima + CSX.

so if anyone can state the different sizes it would be great.

There's a 4mm difference between stock ilx and civic si...plus it's an oem bar that won't wear out the endlinks. That's why I think it's worth it. It's also specifically made for the application, as opposed to the other bars.

Be hardcore and get a Eibach FSB and the Progress RSB

" as opposed to the other bars." what do you mean by that?

The progress and eibach bars fit, but weren't made specifically for the ilx or 9th gen civic. So you run the risk of potentially having clearance issues with aftermarket suspensions or exhaust...nobody has had issues on the civic side of things, but we are guinea pigs at this point with the ilx...though I doubt it will be different.

Next month. Going to hack off the tip and weld a dolphin style tip. Invidia 70mm q300. Only $500 and very reliable for the price....best selling exhaust for the 8th gen civics

I am bent between waiting for GReddy and going full-race. The 3" is just something I am set on for the supercharger.

3" is too loud for this car, I think. Plus I doubt you'll see more than a 5hp gain, and that's up top.

They have on the civic threads...they've upgraded from the 15mm 2012 si bar to the 2013 si bar (18mm). Just remember to get bushings and endlinks too...you might need to get the brackets too.

The only reason I'd prefer an aftermarket bar like the eibach is because it allows for stiffness adjustment.

you most definitely have it upside down.

Mine is on the right way, because I first had it upside down, it didn't look right.. It hit the exhaust. I flipped it around and it fit PERFECT.

All clearance, went for a ride, smoooooooootttthhhh. That rear end holds tight and no more flopping around. There is still some pitching in the front, but I'm hoping coilovers will take care of that.

All I know is, NIGHT and DAY difference. I drove 200 miles today before the sway bar install. Came home, installed the bar (20 minutes, with a quick drink break in the middle after I took off the stocker), went for a drive. I have it on the tighter/stiffer setting. It also doesn't hurt the harshness of the car either, actually its much more composed.

Anyways, $110 well spent. I can't wait for my commute in the morning.

I stiffer setting of the Eibach RSB is still not stiff enough. I can't get the rear to step out and rotate better. the eibach front and progressive rear sounds quite tempting.

For a novice driver, the eibach on the stiffest setting should be plenty. Remember, most people don't know how to counteract oversteer on a fwd car. The bar was tough to install lol and it being upside down could be the reason why, ugh. Anyway, I told you all the bar would fit / work...psh, you can thank me now

Yeah, once I turned it around, bar went in without any problems. It fit right into place and everything bolted in smoothly. Car feels great. It should have came from factory like this. Slightly less floppy in the front too though

Maybe install the front eibach sway and upgrade to the progress 22mm? The front sway bar is really hard to install though.

p.s. I wish I got my sway installed professionally from the get-go. Now, I have to spend more time going to get it re-installed. Ugh, what a waste of time.

thats what I was thinking from that previous post.
Its not hard. Its just a bit more time consuming but still can be done with some jack stands and basic hand tools. But ive also worked at a maintenance shop for a couple years and also have a garage full of tools to do this on my own. also built the suspension myself in my track toy.

Aaronnn - You think this will mess with warranty? May want one of these.

It puts more strain on the factory end links, so those would be out of warranty. But it shouldn't affect anything else.

easy and easy.

Coils, I may need to look for my spring compressor and ball joint puller. I should have it somewhere though. If not, we can always rent it from the Advance Auto down the block. probably take about 2 hours on factory settings. If you want to play around and adjust to make it lower/higher, it'll take an extra hour.

Exhaust should be cake. 1 hour - 1.5 hours max. although, I'm not familiar with this "downpipe" that we have on our cars, it's weird not having a full tubular header.. I would actually think it should be easier, but who knows, haven't tried it yet. If its a catback exhaust, I can't see it being longer than half an hour.

Matt - it has nothing to do with the warranty. I've had coilovers, sway bars, arm bars, cusco braces, big brakes, headers, exhaust, high flow cat, intake, tb spacers, camber kit, etc done on my TL and I still got warranty work done on my car. This was at Park Ave. I had to get my transmission and EGR valve replaced. They even gave me a TSX loaner for a week..
