So I have been taking my 2019 ILX A-spec to the local Acura dealership for service for just about 2 years now. For some reason there’s this one particular service manager who always questions why I’m changing my oil when I bring it in. I don’t drive the car very far and am well under the average miles driven. However, I usually change it every 9 months at 5k driven. He always refers to the oil percentage, basing that number off of his logic. Now I live in Florida and the car is parked outside. Am I just crazy for choosing to change the oil when I do, or is this guy in the wrong?
why does he care, he's getting money.. if anything i would do it myself at that interval to save the money but if you've got disposal income, what's it to him? I think you're fine with that OCI. I do mine at 6 months regardless of mileage (sometimes 5000, sometimes 50mi)
100% agree with thoiboi Why does he care? It's your car and as mentioned the dealership is benefiting from the $$$ for oil changes. I have my oil changed between 9-12 months and am doing about 6K a year. My $0.02

This is almost identical to the mileage Im putting on the car annually. His reasoning was based on the oils lack of accumulated moisture which in turn doesn’t require changing until the oil life is at 0%. I couldn’t find any data to support his claim but I appreciate you both for the response. Makes me feel like I’m truly not in the wrong for this.

To my knowledge dealerships don’t have ready access to equipment to measure entrained moisture so that reason may not be valid. Next time you are getting a change pull an oil sample and send it off to a lab. Probably more gas in the oil than moisture.

I change mine every 3-4k since 29k when I purchased the car with Mobil 1 20k fully syn with a Wix filter because I can and don't care what people think otherwise. Popped the valve cover off at 90K to change the gasket and she looked absolutely brand new under. That's why I change my own and do what I do.
