Remote Start for 2019 ILX

Hello -

I have a few questions: My local Acura dealership told me that an Acura/Honda version of remote start could be installed on the 2019 ILX, but only for the base and Technology package levels (regardless if it's A-Spec or not). However, they're unable to install it on the Premium package level. How does this make sense? The Premium trim is the trim level between the base and the Technology packages. I thought the only advantage the Technology package has is an enhanced sound system and a very outdated navigation system. What does that have to do with remote start? And how is it that the base trim can have remote start installed, but not the Premium package-level? As you can guess I drive a 2019 ILX with the Premium package.

------------

That being said, what third party remote start system would you recommend? And should I worry at all about it voiding my warranty? By the way, I don't need a screen on my remote start or the ability to link it to my smart phone. Furthermore, I'd rather just carry around my own Acura key fob and not anything in addition to it.

Thank you for your help in advance. =)

Will be interesting to hear the final result on this one. I know for the '18 and earlier ILX they had 3 separate remote start kits - one for base, one for premium, and one for tech package. But what's funny is that if you go to the honda eStore they don't show any remote start optional accessory for the 2019 ILX -at least for base or premium based on my search. And also the online discount resellers don't show the ILX under their 2019 listings at all for accessories.. Will be interesting to see what shakes out here. Next time I'm at my dealer I'll check it out and see what they say. I'm interested because I wanted to get a combined birthday/christmas/etc present for my kids '19 ILX - a remote start. He just got a '19 Premium ILX......

Canadian here, just took ownership of ASpec ILX 2019. All Canadian models come with remote start so whatever he's saying, he's probably wrong.

USDM ILXs do not have remote start standard.

I know but the fact that we have the same trims, means that the remote starter CAN be installed on any trim.

Yes, I believe you're probably correct. I never researched it since I live in CA (no snow) and I have a garage.

Any update on this? Would like to know if it does work on the 2019 ASPEC Premium model as well.

Was at the dealer yesterday and inquired about the status of the remote start for the '19 ILX. He told me that they just got an advisory that says that the existing remote start kits will work on the '19 model. Apparently Acura was taking an exceedingly long time to verify that the '19 updates didn't impact the remote start function - thus the reason it didn't show up as an accessory in any online parts/accessory catalogs. You may want to verify with your local dealer to be sure, but this is what I was told yesterday.

Fucking knew. Like I said. All the Canadian trims have remote start as standard. There was no way in hell that it would be incompatible in American models.

I don't disagree. I've seen several corporate delays and/or decisions recently that tells me the dudes (or dudettes) in those roles aren't clicking on all cylinders. For some silly reason, the spare tire kit for the RLX SH-AWD is on national backorder, but the individual parts that make up the kit are all available. Why? And why does a kit that retails for $169 have a piece (the protector bar for the hybrid battery) that, if you try to buy it separately, has a retail price of $369? Riddle me that one.....

Kits are made to get around the Ben Dover fee.

Just to loop back on this one, my son had the factory remote start installed on his '19 ILX Premium yesterday, and it works like a charm. It's the same kit for '16-'19 (maybe earlier - the important point is that the '19 doesn't change anything from previous years). Comes with 2 remotes.

Thanks for the update. Do you mind if I ask what did the dealer charge for this install?

I believe that the standard install price is close to $700 thru the dealer - $400 list for the part kit, and about $300 for the book time for the install. I didn't pay that, as I negotiated a much lower price thru the dealer - but I also have a long history with this dealer so I get parts discounts and they give me decent service rates on accessories, etc. You can do it yourself if you're really good at tearing apart the dash and plugging things in - but you need the dealer's programming capabilities to connect the new remotes to your specific car....Online parts retailers sell this for about $300 after shipping.

Thanks. The install doesn’t look that bad. When my son did this on his TLX they charged him $100 for the install and programming. This looks to be the same.

$100 for the full install AND remote programming sounds like a steal. Even my discounted parts and install wouldn't have been $100 broken out. Not sure if the TLX is the same, but the ILX you need to tear most of the dash trim panels off....
