Radar Detector placement

Anyone figure out an ideal place to put a radar detector? The car charger port could not be in a less optimal space for mounting devices like a GPS or radar. I figure I need to buy an extended cord or have to hardwire my radar to the auto dimming mirror.

Agreed with Trent!
Hardwire is the only way to go.

^there really isnt that many hardwire setups....

you buy a hardwire kit that fits your specific radar detector.
which is like 10 bucks off amazon/ebay.

you then push the wire under the headliner and down through the A pillar to end up near the fuse box.
use an add a fuse to connect it to ACC on.
VOILA.

Valentine V1 ftw!!! Couple that with a Laser interceptor and you'll be fine!

That's exactly what I was gonna say! Justin beat me to it

Some brands will make their own.. like say Escort.

without ever doing it before; it took me all of 20 mins to hardwire my radar detector.

not sure if the ILX has a fuse box near the kickpanel or floor of the car.
but its pretty simple.

fish through headliner to A-pillar which makes it drop down towards the kick panel/floor/fuse box.

The ILX doesn't have an auto dimming rear view mirror? (lucky you!). That's the only upside to it in the TSX, I can use it to power my Valentine (Invisicord plugs right into it).

Hey Guys-

Hard wired my Escort Redline with the following items, no using the a-pillars and wiring to fuse box needed. The mirror tap simply plugs into the same inputs for the auto dimming mirror.

Invisicord (invisicord.com) is the exact same thing for not much more than half the money (16" cord is $17 shipped). I prefer to stick with the suction cup mount that came with the Valentine. For one the thing, I can mount the detector higher. I mount it to the right of the mirror, right at the line of the black strip on the top of the OE windshield (replacements have a tint strip, not the blackout one, and I can mount the detector even higher), so it's less noticeable and more out of my line of sight.
