New ILX Stalling
New ILX Stalling
Hi my name is Kyle and I have been a member for awhile, but mostly lurk on here and don't really post. I previously had a 2004 CGP TSX and just picked up a 2014 BWP ILX a little over 3 weeks ago and it is already is having issues with less than 800 miles.. 3 times now it has stalled at a stop light and I have had to shut it off, wait several seconds to minutes until it would turn back on which has caused me to almost be in several accidents. I took it to the dealership and they took it out for a test drive to see if they could reproduce the issue and thankfully it happened to their tech. They said it might be the EGR valve so they replaced it and have been driving it to see if it has any more issues. If everything goes well I should get the car back today.
Has anyone else experienced this or know what the issue might be? I trust the dealership/ the car is under warranty, but I wouldn't mind getting other peoples thoughts.

since its a new car, most likely not many people have experienced this.
I would rule out a dirty EGR valve, but that doesnt mean the EGR valve was faulty.
if they are just throwing parts at it, they dont know whats wrong...

Premium (91) like the Owner's Manual calls for. However, my father did put 89 in it once, but Acura claims that should not have been an issue and it is safe to run 89 all the time.. I don't agree with that one bit and think the lower grade of fuel might have helped contribute to the issue, but considering it has happened on more than one occasion and on both types of gas I am not sure what is causing it.

Is this an auto or manual ILX?
I started out using 91 for the first maybe 5 months. I hit a rough couple months and I started using the lower grade. Since then I have actually seen an increase in gas mileage but no stalling issues. This is in a 2.0 btw.
Good luck!

The car is a 2.0 automatic. That is strange that you have seen an increase, I would have thought the opposite and a rougher ride due to the fuel burning faster and the engine tuned for a slower burning fuel.
^there's TOO many variables for that gentleman to pinpoint his lower octane fuel mileage increase claim...
unless he has a spreadsheet that shows his same route, his same driving habits, his same time idling at redlights, in the same weather at the same station....just too many variables..

All I know is for the first roughly 5 months I was using the medium grade octane level.
During this time I was getting around 24 mpg.
I started using a lower octane grade some months ago and have seen it climb to nearly 28.
I then put in an aftermarket intake and saw a decrease in gas mileage that I associated with my increased heavy foot.
Im now seeing just under 27 average while using this lower octane.
I would say the intake increased my mpg but initially I saw a decrease and my increase in MPG was witnessed about 2 months prior to the intake install.
