iPhone5 and ILX
Anyone know the deal with the iPhone 5 and ILX compatibility. Have a new ILX and paired it with my iPhone5. It appears to work fine during pairing. Even can make outgoing calls with no issue. BUT, when I 'pickup' an incoming call, the caller cannot hear me and I cannot hear them. The call seems connected
I read a thread on here from last year about this very problem but it died off without much firm resolution.
Can it be the ILX does not work with the iPhone 5? Is their a TSB on this? A patch from either Acura or Apple?
Any advice would be appreciated. On Monday I'll obviously also call the dealer, but I'd love to know the answer before then if possible.

I don't think there should be any problems, I've paired many iPhone 5s. However, the issue you're describing sounds like the input select issue I've observed. Does is behave the same if unplugged from the USB plug?

Hi Colin,
Good to see you're still around on here. You always offered good insight. I've been gone for a couple years, but my daughter just bought herself an ILX. We tried to pair it and test it with her iPhone5 with these results. Figured someone on AZ could help
As far as your question; there is no plug in's going on. This is a pure BT talk connection. Like I said, the car acknowledge the incoming call, you can answer the call, but then there is no audio on either side.
The only thought I had was the version of OS. Her phone is running the original iOS 6.0. I asked her to update to 6.1 and see what happens.
FYI: My Nokia 920 Windows Phone works perfectly with talk, incoming text, and outgoing speech-to-text messaging on this car.

I wouldnt imagine its a problem with that version iOS since it would be one of the newest and any iOS should work in theory.
It sounds like everything is working perfect on the phone's end as well as connectivity.
Id be willing to bet it was an issue with your car's receiver that detects the drivers voice. Not sure what trim levels have audio recognition but if the ilx will take audio commands than that would rule out my assumption.
Give the car a few audio commands and see if it responds.

That was our initial thoughts also. But we ruled it all out by doing some tests.
1) All the voice commands work perfectly
2) Her phone works perfectly if SHE initiates the call. It only seems deaf when the call is incoming
3) It works perfectly with my Windows Phone
4) Her phone also works perfectly in my car and her sisters car
So we're left concluding the car and her phone both work fine, just not with each other on incoming calls.
That sounds like a software issue to me

As I recall there was some initial incompatibility with the iPhone 5. I'm pretty sure that has been resolved, at the very least, I certainly haven't had any customers comment on this to me (recently).
The reason I asked about the USB connection is that even if you are not using it, having it plugged in in the "wrong" order can interfere with Bluetooth operation. In other words, if the USB cable is plugged in "before" the Bluetooth handshake occurs, it will screw up the audio output.

Thanks for all the suggestions. In the end, updating to iOS 6.1 solved the issue that restarts, repairing, etc. didn't do.
Bottom line: If using an iPhone 5 with an ILX (maybe even the new RLX, MDX, etc.), be sure you're not running iOS 6.0. There seems to be some issue with Bluetooth in that first version

I had the same issue before and then I upgraded to the latest ios which was 6.1.3 and the incoming call worked just fine. I also had the incoming text feature working but when I upgraded to ios 7, everything seems to work except the text feature.

Please note, even with the latest versions of iOS 6, the USB plug issue still exists. If the plug is attached before the Bluetooth handshake takes place it will screw up the audio output. In order to reset it, you need to unplug and replug the dock connector.
It will be interesting to see if they are able to remedy this once they get Siri in the car working. If I understand correctly, the talk button in the car should function as the "home" button on the iPhone. Although, currently, if you are okay with accessing the physical "home" button on the iPhone itself, once paired, you can use Siri and the HFL microphone in the car to interact with the mobile device. Normal Siri commands such as "read my messages" will play your incoming text messages through the cars system.

I use it with my Lumia 920 (windows phone) and I can't imagine living without it anymore. I never type text messages anymore. I dictate them all. In the car it's a must have for obvious reasons. I can receive a text message, hear it over my speakers in my TL, and then respond by just saying the message and letting the phones voice to text do it's thing. I assume the latest iPhone can do similar things now.

Officially, Apple does not fully support the MAP feature needed for sending text messages. Besides, if it did it would only allow you to select from six predefine responses. Using the "Siri hack" allows you to compose any message via voice.
