Recently added aftermarket sound system, on my own, after much research. I was a little intimidated because my system was originally installed by a shop in my two previous vehicles. I have the 2017 ILX Base model. I was able to keep my OEM radio in tacked and harnessed my aftermarket receiver, amp, speakers, and sub. The aftermarket receiver (head unit) is in the glove box. After everything was installed I realized I no longer had my reverse cam. So I got an OEM harness and supplied power to OEM receiver (red, black, and yellow) wires and it worked out great. I also got my clock back. Easy to do, and I think researching first is what got me all nervous. The best link I found on here was for crutchfield. I got the door panel tear down sheet for $10. Well worth it. 3 hidden screws I never would have thought about were in all 4 doors.
Secondly as I was replacing my air filter I looked into K&N’s just to price ‘em. One thing led to another and I ended up finding a cold air intake, exact match to my year/model, on eBay for $150. New costs $300. It had 5,000 miles on the filter and after getting it I believed it. Probably just enough to break it in. Got super lucky on that. I recommend anyone interested in a quick bolt-up upgrade to at least look into it. I love it. Sounds great and I’d say I got about 10-15 hp. Just a guess-ta-mate. It’s not like an exhaust set up that I find to be obnoxious sounding on Hondas. It’s gives power at higher rpms or when you just want a little more here and there. At cruising speeds you’d never really know it’s there, and it’s not recommended for average joe driving around town mpg wise, but I don’t necessarily drive like grandpa, nor obnoxiously.
Just thought I’d check in here. Couldn’t be any happier with my 2017 ILX. Don’t know why this forum doesn’t have an ILX prefix hup there for new posts. Had to put Misc.
I must say, after looking at some replies to other similar posts, I’m reminded why I took the time to post. First of all, if anyone comes across this with questions about doing these upgrades, please ask here. I’m just as cautious, even down to maintenance, as the next Acura owner. However, unless you’ve owned a cold air intake (pictures or it didn’t happen) don’t talk people out of it. Granted it may depend on what you’re working with as far as vehicle at stock and how it’s been maintained, I don’t believe negative responses on this have come from experience.
I also came across some of the replies that I had read that had me doubting the ease of installing a system. Bro... send it! Get up on it! If you run into a problem, there’s a solution. Things can be disconnected, but you might not have to, try not disconnecting until you know for yourself. On the other hand you can get a replacement harness to splice power into something you’ve bypassed.
I’m not the most techy, knowledgeable person. A Lot of guys on here set the bar high and it’s much appreciated.
