I believe he, or someone else posted that the part numbers are different from the 2013 to 2014.

I would most definitely assume whatever is causing the sound is also causing a change in the way they perform. Hopefully not causing damage though but if so acura should replace anything and everything once they solve the issue.

Shocks are just the housing, with basically a simple oil pump inside. It is hard to imagine where the sound originates from... especially without me having heard the sound.
If it a loud sudden THUNK that lasts like a second or is it long and drawn out?
If it takes a second Id think the chassis or suspension are hitting something.
If it was long and drawn out then Id assume it is more the shocks themselves... maybe having improper hydraulic fluid pressure.

IN a long speed bump, as explained when people say they hear the sound, the body tends to travel less in relation to the wheels and axle. With a narrower speed bump the suspension travel will be much great.... this further confuses me because if you ask me Id assume a long speed bump creating sounds would be due to hydraulic fluids where as if it was a narrow speed bump that causes more suspension travel could be the chassis knocking on a suspension component.

Hope my rambling can help the discussion further.

Yes Sir, they are swapping ALL 4. Enough is enough.

Do you know where we can find the 13 front and rear and the 14 front and rear complete part #'s online?

Please keep us updated with a review of the new ride quality.. I'd like to know if it's worth it for more than just to get rid of the sound.

SHOCK ABSORBER ASSY., RR. - 2013 ACURA ILX (52610-TX6-A05)
SHOCK ABSORBER ASSY., RR. - 2014 ACURA ILX (52610-TX6-A06)

I believe those are both the Rear Right... A05 and A06
I wonder what the difference is.

Here is the complete front & rear Shock Absorber Assembly comparison side by side for the 2013 & 2014 ILX.

Not sure why there were two part numbers available for the FRONT, left/right side (highlighted) for the 2013 model year.

Maybe you can purchase the new 2014 part for the 2013?

Attached is an updated spreadsheet of the 2013 & 2014 front and rear shock absorber assembly.

As you can see (highlighted), based on the part numbers; the 2013 front has an option for the newer 2014 shock absorber.

Update

I got the rear shocks replaced with the "new" 2014's, which have the different part numbers.

Result - I'm hearing the same damn noises/thumping No difference at all.

The stock shocks/struts/dampers on this car are complete garbage.

If you got them replaced how can you blame them. Its clearly something else.

Just cause it's a "different" part number, doesn't mean that there is anything physically different between the two.

Wow.
Okay. Your ilx is making a noise and you figured its the strut.
You swap out Strut A for Strut B but the sound remains. A mechanic worth their weight in greasy work button ups would tell you its not the damn strut.

My ILX now has 6500 miles on it. Just got done doing a 3000 mile trip from Vegas over the Rocky's to KC then back through OKLAHOMA into Santa Fe NM and then back to Vegas, all kinds of roads. Guess I've been lucky so far no noise??

haha, best response ever. Yea, I'm lucky I don't have noise. I plan on getting the hfp suspension so I won't have to worry about any of this noise who-ha. Also, this car with a bigger sway bar (which I have) and spring/shock combo will make it a competent handler.

Hello. I just bought my 2.0AT in April and brought it back to the dealership in Springfield, NJ for the thumping noise when the car goes over bumps and other imperfections and also a constant annoying rubbery clunking noise. They claim to have heard the same noise and allegedly replaced the rear struts which resolved the issue. Wrong!!! this noise is getting on my nerve and so is the hard riding rear end. Did you or anyone else get a resolution? I regret downsizing from my 10 TL due to the gas prices.

Sorry to hear. I'm in the same boat, for the past year. Been back and forth with Acura about a dozen times now. Still working with the dealer, hopefully to have them buy the car back because there is no fix, and get into something else.

I'm going in again tomorrow, now for 6th time related to the same damn unacceptable noises on this $30k "luxury" car that I can bet a $14,000 Kia Rio doesn't sound like.

Has ANYONE had a resolution from Acura personally with this?
I have already brought my car back to Acura of Springfield for the thumping rear end and a rubber clunky annoying sound that is persistent. Whereabouts in NJ are you located and maybe we can go back as a tag team and raise attention to this issue!

Attention to this issue has been raised long ago, throughout all channels.

I'm in Northern NJ, but I got the car at Montclair Acura.

Waiting very impatiently to hear the whole story and how your dealership is more competent than the two I've dealt with repeatedly for the past year, with no end in sight, and tons of frustration.

Do you really think it's incompetence on the part of your dealer(s) or just more information/experience is available now? From a dealers perspective, (admittedly not service dept) they need Acura HQ to identify and engineer a fix and in the meantime (from your reports), they've done all you've asked. The mechanic is probably being paid a flat rate of .5 hours to spend a half or whole day working on your car.

Colin- I was last at a different dealer YESTERDAY, to check if there was any updates, as well as to see if I can get lucky like this particular gentlemen did and have this finally fixed. This particular dealer said they have not had 1 ILX come in with suspension complaints. He checked for bulletins....nothing. Not sure how true that is, but it came from the service manager. If you think there is more information out provided to the dealers since yesterday, then your a correct sir. Apparently this persons dealer knew about a "fix" a few days ago, where the one I was at yesterday never even heard of such a complaint from a customer.

Where is the disconnect here?

I really wish I could tell you. But as noted, I don't have the problem and our store hasn't had any customer with it as you describe. I haven't checked on bulletins, but service is closed today for a state holiday.

I wish I could offer some solace for you as I can see how frustrated you are with the situation. I'm just out of ideas. Is is possible that you hear something that I also hear but consider it "normal"? I've been wondering if you have a broken weld somewhere in the unitbody?

It's very simple Colin (nothing personal). I'm experiencing both problems on a daily basis since day 1.

1: Front passenger-side knocking: At low speeds (see engine mount thread). Apparently I am not the only one experiencing this noise since there is a tech-line summary print-out, which indicates there were trying to diagnose the problem for someone else as well.

2: Rear thumping: Any dip in the road, man-hole.....Plenty of reports on this, not an isolated issue.

How can it possibly be "normal", or a broken weld, when many others have reported the same and a poster just said that his dealer diagnosed and fixed the same issue for him by changing: arm, links....?

My advice? Calm down and wait for a response before you create animosity with more users.
We arent mechanics working for acura. We arent going to be able to help with your problem. Period.
Its a new car with new issues. Youre at the mercy of the dealers and if they dont see YOUR problem as a detriment to their sales then they wont see your issue as a priority.
Users are trying to give advice where we have the amount of knowledge as you; zero and youre arguing with them incessantly.

And the recent claim to having a fix was just a claim. I dont think the user has even driven the car yet. They just witnessed some changes the shop did AND they didnt even specify if it was a dealer or shop.

THAT being said. How dare that user leave you guya hanging like this. Thats what happens when users arent as technology prone or just the drive to be apart of a community. Help these people out!!

In the end. I have no idea why youre still driving the same ilx. I would have driven to the dealer and told them I cant stand the knocking and want a new ilx or I will switch dealers TODAY. Claim a breach of contract because they arent fixing the issue and youre still under warranty. Demand a new car or you will get on social media networks and highlight your grievance with acura and that specific dealer.
Ruffle some feathers, bends some fingers back. In the end dealers see selling cars as the hard part. Make it harder for them!

For whatever it's worth, from the RDX forum, regarding the same thump they are hearing on their cars.

Revised Rear Wheel Shock Absorbers Installed!
Yeepee!!!!

Took my vehicle into the dealership yesterday and had the new rear wheel shock absorbers and interior wood grain appearance package installed. No more clunking noise from the rear. Yeepee!!!! Vehicle drives super smoothly now. So happy I got this done.

Thanks everyone for creating a forum on this topic. Its unfortunate this happened but I'm glad people spoke up about this. Much appreciated. It will sure help a lot of people with the same problem.

Super stoked!!!!!
Later everyone
