ILX Auto Wipers
ILX Auto Wipers
So I've been driving my mom's 2017 ILX while my 3G TL is sitting at the dealer waiting to be appraised/fixed for a stolen catalytic converter. Her car is a tech pack car and so it has automatic rain sensing wipers, and ever since she's owned the car, she's complained they don't work very well. We've taken the car to the dealer two or three times at this point trying to replicate the issues without much luck. The car has 18,xxx km, and I'm 99.9% sure it has the original windshield in it as well.
Her complaints are -
In light to medium rain the car will intermittently not wipe at all on auto, regardless of the sensitivity setting. I've experienced this myself on a trip home in some light rain. I had the car on auto, the high sensitivity, and it refused to wipe at all over the course of a 25 minute drive.
In medium and heavier rain the car will go 2 or 'hi' speed seemingly randomly and stay at that speed until you move the whole stalk up or down. It doesn't seem to matter how much water is on the windshield because if you cycle the stalk from auto to off and back when it's doing this, it'll go back 1 or 'low' every time. I wouldn't have thought the auto setting would be allowed to go the 'hi' setting, but I guess it's intended.
Things tried so far -
Clean and degrease the windshield thoroughly
Replace the wiper blades with OEM replacements
The dealer replaced the little see through square pad the sensor sits on
I've owned much, much older cars with automatic wipers that worked so much better and consistently than this that I didn't sweat too much getting her a car with auto wipers, but I'm starting to regret it.
How well do the automatic wipers work in your ILX? Anyone else experience issues like this?
