DRLs are now OFF

I think Acura's ILX DRL's are really the cheap way to do it. I just hate the high beam set up running at a low intensity. Well no problem now, all you need to do is pull inside fuse number 21 and they are extinguished! You get no dash warning light either once this has been done.

You proponents of DRLs need not expound on their virtues for I don't disagree, I just want the choice of turning them off, just like Toyota has done. Later, I might add some LED's as DRL's if I can find something in taste that does not look like some sort of gaudy lighting adventure. Seems like lots of overkill with DRLs on the German cars now.

DRLs don't bother me, but it's good to know the mod is so easy.

This is great to know. Thanks for sharing! I'm not a DRL fan, either. In fact, I've driven 100% of the time (day and night) with my headlights & fogs full-on, just to avoid having DRLs illuminated. Plus the projector headlamps are sexy and look good going down the road during the daytime.

It is not safe to drive with your lights on during the day. The reason is your tail lights will be lit up. making it harder for the driver behind you to distinguish the contrast of when you brake.

The better mode is to put in some blue HID bulbs for your low beams. They look white when turned on.

Then your tail lights won't be lit up all the time.

I disagree, but I respect that opinion. The LED 3rd brake light in the rear window indicates to drivers behind me when my brakes are activated.

Also, the contrast between the lights when the brakes are depressed and when the brakes are not is pretty significant.

Do the high beams still work if needed?

High beams work fine since it is a separate circuit! No problems at all with pulling the DRL fuse #21 in 2 months of operation.
That said I'm considering installing at least a 9 LED bright strip next to each of the fog lamps, but only if I can get a factory fitted look. I have a set of ILX hybrid lower grills and am looking at mounting them on these pieces. What I'm still debating is whether to create cooling holes on the solid left and right lower grills. I hate the idea of jacking with the removal of the front bumper cover so I may just skip the hybrid lower grills and use the originals. I like the chrome strip look but may be able to accomplish this also on the installed grills.
Any thoughts from the team?

Same exact boat here. Already have the hybrid lower inserts (<$70 total shipped for both left and right sides). Just dreading the bumper removal process. I saw how long it took the tech to just install the front pieces of the sport underbody kit so I know how much of a chore it is. Also was pondering the same thing as you are about ventilation. The hybrid inserts look like they could fairly easily be Dremel'd out (and still look clean/OEM) to allow some airflow. I'll let you know what I end up deciding.

Oh, and I did end up pulling my DRL fuse. I just like control over my headlights. Say I've got someone crashing the night at my house in the front room and I need to go to work early while they're sleeping, I want to be able to back out the driveway without lights shining in my front house window. I can roll out inconspicuously then activate the headlights when I'm on the street. Just little things like that. Plus I still drive with HID / fogs on 95% of the time.

I also want to change the lower grills, I posted on a different thread that the air intake goes down to suck air in somewhere in the driver's side. I took a look yesterday and couldn't tell where the opening was or if its close to the lower grill. As far as the radiator goes, our ILX came with a fairly big center grill, so I don't think it will affect the cooling of the engine so much.

Fortunately not a law in the US. I like the idea of DRL's..if they were done by LED strips instead of the cheap out implementation with the high beams of the ILX. Hardly any mfr is doing it this on the high beams anymore.

Once you do it once you'll see how easy it is. I can take mine off now in like 15 minutes or less. Assuming yours is like other honda/acura.

LED DRLs you'll either lose or have completely useless high beams. Something to think about if you use them often.

I bought the kit from here - http://store.ijdmtoy.com/9005-LED-Da...d_sku45_r2.htm

Super easy install, although the driver side was a slight pain because there isn't much room being that the battery is kind of in the way. Small hands help in that case.

The LED's aren't listed as 6K but I sure think they are. My low beams are stock HID's. I also purchased LED's for the Fog's but haven't installed them yet.
