DRL resistor question.

On various resistor how tos, I notice one of them has sticky mounting tape used to mount the inline resistors (usually gold/orangish in color but not always). Based on the resistors looking like a heatsink (sorry, I only know computers really well, not car and wiring things) I'm assuming those things get hot. It would seem like a bad idea to use double stick tape on those. Or am I wrong?

Anyone here who has the resistors on their DRL, how did you mount the inline resistors? I'm really curious. I want to screw them in somewhere, don't know where would be a good place to do so. Double stick tape would be my last resort.

Thanks.

Double stick tape is the norm. You could find some sheet aluminum and make a bracket to screw in somewhere... but even then I used double stick tape to secure the ballasts to the bracket.

alright, so double stick tape is fine and those things don't get that hot? Heat was my biggest concern.

If its a ballast then no problem.
No instructions on their website?

Not sure if this thing is the same as a ballast. I have no clue.

Id screw that in by buying some sheet aluminum. Trace the resister and cut out the aluminum but leave a tab to drill a hole into. Secure the resister to the mount you made and secure the mount via ONE screw and use any existing screw in the bay so you dont drill any knew hole. Should look damn near OE still.

Thanks for the reply.

But the other day I was impatient, and said screw, and connected everything to see how hot the resistor or whatever the gold thing is gets, ran the car for 10 minutes and to my surprise, it didn't get hot at all. It go slightly warm, but not even warm. This gave me the confidence to just use the double sided mounting tape.

I might have to update my lighting thread though to inform any lurkers or future light bulb changers if they had any doubts regarding the heat coming off those things along with some info on placement.

But once again, thanks for taking the time to reply.
