Cracked windshield

Is there a design problem? Have others experienced this?

Driving from Vegas through Flagstaff AZ. Temp change from 60 to below freezing with ice and snow. Next morning in Flagstaff noticed crack on driver side lower left hand side curling up about 7 inches. Wonder if it was a structural issue, body flex? Something others might have had and I could blame on Acura and get it fixed for free under warranty

I've heard of such a thing happening due to temp fluctuations. Friend had it happen in his Chevy Volt 2 weeks ago in Detroit. Crack randomly appeared that ran the entire length of the windshield. I haven't heard of it happening on an ILX specifically, though. I've had 2 rock chips repaired.

I recently got a crack but it was due to what appears to be a rock dent at the bottom right corner. The crack was longer than a dollar (and seemed to grow every day) so I had to get a replacement. Are you sure something did not hit your windshield?

What did it cost to replace? Who did it?

This happened to a buddy's 370z not long ago after an out of town trip, he parked the car and temp changed drastically that night, by the next morning the crack spread across the entire windshield

I went through my insurance who allowed me to choose a shop. My Acura dealer does not directly replace windshields themselves so they referred me to Penske Automotive Collision Center. I was supposed to pay a $500 deductible but the shop told me there was no deductible...

Funny, the one large rock chip (and so far only, knock on wood) I've attracted happened east of Flag, on my way to Vegas last October. I'd had the car less than two weeks. It caused a small star to form, but fortunately it didn't grow over the week I was out there before I had the chance to have it repaired back home.

Agreed with others here, cracks caused by extreme temperature variations are fairly common no matter what you drive.

Sadly that sounds about right; OEM glass would be even more expensive.
