Almost purchased an ILX
Almost purchased an ILX
I have been car shopping recently to replace my 7th gen accord and I thought I had narrowed my next vehicle to an ILX. I was actually looking at the TL, but I wanted something smaller with better MPG since the majority of time I don't have any passengers.
I had driven the ILX before and I had no issues with the 2.0 engine, so power wasn't an issue. On the day of purchase I wanted to make sure the vehicle was the right choice so I took it for an extended test drive. Luckily I did as I noticed the vehicle had more road noise than my current accord and freeway driving wasn't as smooth as the accord.
Then I noticed the door trims look odd and cheap looking IMO, although I didn't get a chance to compare to a 2014 model as I read they were redesigned. The front seats had ample room, but with the seats at the same position as I drove, I sat in the rear seat and my knees would touch the back of the seat, I am only ~5'10". Not really much of a concern as I don't have rear passengers much, but it's just a tad small.
I then drove the TSX (never driven one before) and I immediately notice that it was a far superior car. I quickly noticed the car handled better and had more elbow room. So the TSX is now my top choice as I want to stay with a Honda engine, NO I don't want an accord. Since I don't really need a new vehicle, I am going to wait and see what the TLX looks/features have.
Not sure if others had a similar experience with the ILX.

The ILX as stated is a smaller car so Im not really sure what youre asking here. But I dont think I would buy one for the money Acura is asking. Im also 5'10 and I enjoy riding in the ILX as a passenger. "in the front seat tho"
We see this type of feedback frequently on this forum, and the argument is valid but there's no right or wrong answer. Ultimately it comes down to which car suits your needs better. The TSX is on its way out - the existing platform has been around since 2009 and the car is missing things like push-button start that come standard on the ILX.
For the past 3 consecutive months, the ILX has outsold the TSX. In fact, in 2013 to date, the ILX has sold 1714 units per month on average and the TSX has sold 1496. So apparently some people are seeing the value in ILX over TSX.
If you've got time to wait, see what the TLX has to offer. Personally I'm excited to see what it's all about, too. Good luck w/ your search!

Not sure why you even took the time to tell ilx owners that you bought a tsx instead.
It goes without saying that the TSX is a better car. Hence the inflated prive tag. Same for the TL. Better car than the TSX and youll pay for it.
Congrats on your purchase. I hope you enjoy the car and are happy with the amount you are paying.
Honestly though I dont understand why youd consider the ILX when you wanted the TL and had never tried the TSX. Just makes no sense to me.

The size thing is a valid concern, but coming from a coupe I can tell you it worked perfect for me. Room for baby seats in the back or my gym bag was the only thing i planned on the back seat.
I will be swapping out for a 2012 Mercedes C300 4Matic once spring rolls around only for the reason I agree that the car will be cramped.
Aside form thinking he already purchased the TSX (which makes the post even less relevant since he is simply stating the TSX is better.. obviously) he still has decided the TSX is a better car which is clear; making my post still relevant.
I dont even understand why you are informing him that the ILX works for you with a baby seat. He already stated he isnt concerned about passangers then did a 180 and said he doesnt like how cramped the rear is because his knees touch.
OPs mind was already made up, they just want ILX owners to comfirm the TSX is a better purchase.
It is. End thread.

Agreeing with 4cruizn on this, it really comes down to personal choice and what one's needs are and how deep your pockets may be, as I'm sure many folks have written on mumerous car forums, 'I Almost purchased an whatever' The Ilx was not my first choice and I did not initially 'fall in love' with the car but I drove a few others in the class and within my budget and this was the one I chose for both personal and other reasons. I think even though it has its Civic roots, which is one of the reasons I chose it too, it still has the entry level luxury appeal

The ILX had some really big incentives, I can see why it has more sales. I was able to find several 2013 2.0 w/tech with ~4k miles for ~$25k. Couldn't achieve similar discounts on a TSX.

I am just sharing my observations of the two vehicles, maybe someone trying to decide between the two may find the info helpful. I have been reading the forums for the ILX & TSX as it has great info even though I don't own one.

the ILX should get the G based on the civic. If it does not, i will probably trade the car in, since safety for me is #1.
