6'2" Hybrid Test Drive
6'2" Hybrid Test Drive
I had the chance to test drive the ILX Hybrid yesterday. I have been reading the forum for a while and wanted to share my key thoughts in case others are wondering (it's been very helpful reading for me, so trying to pay it forward):
Acceleration: On city streets I felt no issues accelerating to a comfortable cruising speed, making it through a light turning, etc. On the highway, particularly the on ramp, the car did not feel dangerously slow - it was slow and adjusting to the CVT was awkward at first (I kept waiting for it to change gears) but I would not have any problem with the car. Tested on Los Angeles roads.
Braking: Being a hybrid and the first I have driven in a long time (last time I test drove a civic hybrid years ago) the braking was definitely artificial and took some getting used to.
Handling: Superb, very nimble, nice steering.
Road noise: other than the CVT firing up on accelerations, very quiet coming from a 2011 Pilot EXL
Exterior: You can make up your own mind, I think it is a very attractive car.
Interior: Interface, knobs, and wheel are really well done. Roomier than I thought in the back seat. The front seat for me was a problem - at 6 feet 2 inches, I was barely an inch from the roof with the seat all the way down. The seats were very comfortable (loved the lumbar support) but I do not feel comfortable having little to no head clearance, makes for a difficult shifting in my seat or a possible contact on a nice bump.
Unfortunately, my height is a deal breaker for me - really bummed because it was a great car, IMO, and would have been a perfect addition. The other Acura models do not measure up on the MPG I am looking for...
hope this is helpful to someone.

This sounds a lot like the situation with the Honda S2000. For tall drivers, it came down to whether you were "tall in torso" or "tall in leg". In the case of that car, long legged drivers had a hard time because the steering wheel didn't adjust.
