Excellent move by Acura on the 2019 ILX release. This definitely helps close the "value" gap with the Civic, and should help it compete stronger against the A3 and the A-Class.

 

You know, I'm confused why so many people say the 10G Civic is so much nicer. I drove both the 10G Civic and the MMC ILX and the only thing I thought was noticeably nicer was the Civic's digital gauge and perhaps the infotainment stack, which is debatable as it's proven to be buggy -- possibly fixed by now. I thought the ILX drivetrain was much better than the Civic's.

 

Once interior bit I noticed that was different in the 2019 A-Spec trim (aside from the steering wheel badge, new seats, etc...) is that the 19+ ASpec also has a dark grey/black trim piece that wraps around the front dash instead of the matte silver piece. Something I will definitely pick up and install once the OEM parts websites get updated with the new vehicle.

 

I dig the redesign. A little puzzling how we'll want to classify this one, since technically it's another refresh on the existing car. Sales in September were down year over year, with 930 sales as compared to 1,222 that month in 2017. It will be interesting to see how the marketplace reacts to the updates.

 

I tell yeah right now this is another refresh not a complete redesign, another fail by the Acura team, this is another ILX v1.5,.... this is what the 2016 should have been if anything

I can't believe they still leave that crap cd player in there, IT"S 2019 for Christ sakes, and god has everything to do with it, BAHAHA

they should have put a digital gauge cluster like the 2016 civic si, get ride of the cd player, made the center console more like how the 2016 civic's, add wireless charging, heads up display, added real carbon fiber trim like how the civic 2014-2015 Si's, also dual exhaust, power folding side mirrors with auto.

just a fail, sales will continue to drop you guys just wait and see, you'll see , you'll see. come talk to me in a years time from now.


AND WHERE"S ALL THE TYPE-S versions? I'm not buying another Honda till they give us the S back. with real brakes, steering column paddle sifters etc... none of this generic calipers crap that rusts and look like shit throw the A-Spec rims

I also hope they have the proper kelvin rating on these led headlights, and also have the high beams aim properly when soldering them on the board this time with this version II of the jewel eye

 

A fail? Not entirely.
Remember, the 2018's received a "Special Edition" In Honda/Acura terms, that's often the Death Note for a vehicle line as a Special Edition trim is always used as a final push to clear out inventory of accessories before a model is discontinued. Just look at previous Civic and Accord Special Editions.

We all thought that Acura would completely abandon the ILX platform again as there were no talks or hype building around a new vehicle.

I see this whole ILX 1.0, 1.5, and (1.75?) trend being similar to what happened to the 2012 civics. Where they had a very early refresh since the response was so-so. In that case, it was an imedieate need since they tend to sell some ~30,000 Civics each month.

As much as we all love the ILX, its still one of the slowest sellers in the Acura line, I mean looking at sales numbers, more accords or civics sell in 1 month, then in an entire year of ILX sales.

I was worried when we saw the properly refreshed RDX hit the market since that vehicle was trending to be updated -after- the ILX. When i saw the RDX update, and nothing spoken about the ILX i thought they were going to kill it off.
I'm pretty sure there were some die-hard ILX (or more likley OG RSX/TSX) fans at Acura corporate who pushed this through to keep the ILX brand alive a little longer, and if they are willing to do this last refresh, I'm quite confident the next model will have a fully realized new power train.

The MMC2 ILX has a cd player because it's the old infotainment stack, which still had cd players. We all understand that the infotainment on the ILX is old. But the drivetrain is so much nicer than a standard Civic.

 

I have been told they are only shipping 2 (you read that right, TWO) 2019 ILX's per MONTH to dealerships that sell even the MOST vehicles... At best most dealerships will be getting in one a month right now... Supply very limited....

 

I also really like the new design language of the bumpers and lights, but looks to be a tough sell given the rest of the car is essentially the same as it has been for 5-6 years

 

 

An excellent and review by an experienced Canadian Auto Journalist who is not always kind to Acura. Most prominently, he expounds on how well this car handles and how much fun it is to drive.

Specs remind me of a 1G TSX! This is a Good thing!

 

it looks better than a civic finally so I think for that it is worth buying and maybe we;ll see more on the road now

 

I always liked the ILX. The new one looks like a cross between the 1G ILX and a new TLX!

That white ASPEC looks darn good, certainly better than the Civic and better than many of it's rivals, although as Zach Spencer points out in the review, there really isn't any other car with it's price range and features. As for turbos, are they are becoming a little too trendy and a little overrated? ...kind of like one infotainment screen glued on top of the dash. That 2.4 very reliable DI engine paired with the 8 DCT is a very nice combo and I suspect it will be more reliable than many of the turbos in the longer term.

 

...and as for the old fashioned CD player, this car would have a HD with the ELS in the Tech and up trims, where you can load just about as many CDs as you can find and call up the music you want when you want it from the HD.
