2016 MMC ILX spied

So you sold 10 out of 10 and 3 you didn't even order! Sounds like there is a demand. How many people bought an auto just because they couldn't find a manual? I am sure they can sell couple 1000 a year and keep the people like me happy. I would have went for the ILX but knew that a major refresh is coming and they likely won't offer manual. Hope they prove me wrong tomorrow!
Save the manuals!
Save the manuals!
If VW can leverage the global chassis of the Golf to sell enough manuals to make it worth it to them... more power to them. The ILX is a NA only product with WAY less volume. VW is also able to sell a station wagon that was a total failure for Acura. It seems like some things are not meant to be. It's sad for me, cause 2016 will be the first time (in Acura history) that we'll enter a new model year with no MTs to sell.

This makes me upset... I was dead set on my first car being a manual ILX, and it having new features for 2016 should've been the icing on the cake. Is Acura just trying to kill its enthusiast side? Sure there will be some enthusiasts hanging on to dual-clutch cars, but no new guys (like I would have been) are going to go for an autobox. Also, the direct injection 2.4 liter doesn't stand up to the old, non direct-injection one in terms of excitement. It's not loud, and it doesn't sound that great, despite the slight performance bump. Read any current review of the ILX, and there is usually a lot of criticism... the only thing that is universally great (like, best-in-the-business) is the engine and transmission. Yet, that's what Acura decides to pull out of the car. Why take out the best part of it? Looks like I might just have to look at either a Civic Si (I'd like something nicer), the old ILX 2.4 or probably a BMW 2-series (too expensive, won't last until 300k like a Honda would, but it has a manual!). What a shame!
#203
The direct injection 2.4 in the Accord is fine, especially in the Sport model with a 6MT. With a cold air intake, it makes all the right noises.
Not sure why you don't think so

I love Honda/Acura, and I totally agree that it really does sound very nice... But so do all K-series engines... The direction injection one is just too "refined"/toned down, and certainly seems that way in the TLX (coming from a car guy like me, the new TLX engine certainly suits Acura as a whole better than the one from the ILX). To me, though, the 2.4 from the Civic Si/ILX 2.4 is what made me want that car so badly, along with the transmission.

They have, and you will see soon.
Additional upgrade touches, including the electronics. Premium adds more to upgrade interior further, then Tech adds what it normally adds. More to be seen soon
Wrong on all accounts, and AWD had nothing to do with 2016, it is just a thinking view moving forward...not just a next year thing. You can't change something that massively for a mid cycle refresh anyway.
Think of this as improvements everyone will love, except for those 2-3 people on forums who are the only 2-3 people wanting an oddball configuration no one bought anyway.
More to come tomorrow.

I really, really hope the interiors are substantially upgraded. The engines don't matter as much to me (though of course I hope those are improved, too) but little of what I can see in the pics convinces me the '16 models are markedly better than our cars.
Oh, and "Catch it if you can" is a really, really dumb tagline IMHO.

If there is one thing that Honda does well is the manual. The clutch is light and the shifter is where its suppose to be.
But, their philosophy in general is when they get something right... kill it immediately! Why? Looks like they believe that if they get something right then they'll depend on that for ever and get too comfy with it, eventually losing to the competition that will find a way to become better.
PS. if you want manual go get a 2015 Civic Si and keep it for ever.

A friend of mine managed to snap some pre-show shots of a silver '16 ILX, and another one in a really sharp blue. Apart from changing the front and rear fascias and new wheels, little else appears different on the outside.

Pics or ban.

I don't like the rear....It has this "titled down" effect and not for me but I'll wait for better pics. If this pans out, this, combined with teh lack of manual will push me to the Lexus for sure. Ah well...it was worth holding out in case...
...and those wheels?!? The current gen are so much better and why not use a pattern as the concept ILX. *shaking my head*

It doesn't look bad to me but if it doesn't have a manual I think I'd have to just get the current 2.4...but the DCT from the TLX felt great when I drove it, no hard shifts and I drove with IDS on/off. Is it an issue that occurs after driving it a while or something?
As for the wheels I think all of those weird spiral wheels are pretty ugly. I love the stock 5 spokes on the current models.

Acura had a chance.
Acura had two chances.
This Generation ILX is done if the power train and driving feel and interior quality isn't hugely bumped up.
On the bright side.. the front-end is sure to look good, if not great, and the wheel packaging is pretty good thus far.

You can barely see anything yet.
We're seeing two wheel sets - the current ILX comes with the same wheels across the board and only has one optional set. I'm guessing at least one of these sets is standard.
It already looks way better.

are you really 31???????
do you know how business works!??!?!??

THEY FUCKING SUCK!
have you seen the rest of the lineup's tag lines???
"its that kind of thrill"
#221
Have you seen the rest of the industry's tag lines? They all suck. And the TLX ads have been great so far. In fact you could say that, because we and even magazines are using the tag lines in their critical coverage that the ads have worked.
#222
Justinspace...May you just found their new slogan: ACURA...THEY ALL SUCK"
LMAO - JUST KIDDING!! Actually, I think Acura is doing great improvement and their model lineup is getting more stylish and they catch up in the tech dept too. This was just a joke on my part.
From the angle of the pics, I am not a big fan of the rear bumper from the view but that could just be the quality of the pics. We'll see later on today. I think I will love the front, interior and even the DCT is a good idea but I just wish they also had the 6 speed manual available.
One thing Acura and Honda suck BIG TIME though is their wheel designs....From the new CR-V to the TLX, to the RLX and now ILX....Why?!?

I know there isnt any thrill in the TLX. and would not purchase one.
but I love to talk about it.
#225
those pictures are so.... underwhelming. typical honda/acura MMC. promise alot and under deliver (except for the 7th gen accord which was a very nice cosmetic upgrade). I wouldnt be surprised if they didn't even do any powertrain updates.
#226
I am driving a 2015 Accord Sport now. Best looking Accord ever made. It looks like they made new bumpers and new head and tail lights. Inside I am guessing some tech upgrades and DCT.
#227
I'm in the camp of Acura has been selling the TLX like crazy and talking about how "bad" the ads are makes me want to throw things at the wall. "Missing the point" is the phrase were looking for - ads and critical reception can take a running leap if Acura keeps selling 5000 a month of these things.

Acura's unofficial landing page says 11/20 at 9:30AM.
2016 Acura | Future Vehicles - ILX | Acura.com
I presume that's PST so we have another 2.5 hours before the reveal.

That's my guess - if Jewel Eyes are across the board they'll need more to separate the two trims (since HIDs are the biggest reason now). I'm also guessing that Leatherette will come to the base model and the Premium will get real leather.
#235
To me, it seems like Acura is doing all it can to downplay this introduction. No live-streaming of the event. A low-key social media presence. This is how companies behave when they know they're going to be lambasted.
#236

#237
The 'new' ILX had better be substantially improved because per dollar spent, the Accord completely has it beaten in every single category. And to make matters worse, they overlap significantly in price range.
Honestly, why buy an ILX as it stands now? If the refresh has the TLX's 2.4 motor, upgraded interior and new features it becomes far far more desirable.

I was wrong on the time earlier, but I still see no live stream on Acura's youtube yet. This was certainly up by this point for the TLX launch videos

Looks like they're in the process of updating the site. Refresh your browser! Oh and I think I want one!!!!
