2016 ilx k&n intake in the works

So I Just got back from picking up my car from K&N and here is the intake.
As you can see they branded it under their child company AEM.
The intake provided a peak hp gain of 15 hp (from 5700 - 6000 rpm) with most of the power band picking up about 5-7 hp range.
On the torque side the intake provided a gain of 13 ft-lb (again from 5700 - 6000 rpm) with the same 5-7 ft-lbs from 3000-5700.
As shown below the the utilized the stock snorkel section of the OEM section and placed a heat shield to keep the temps down.
The sound of the intake is throaty when you are on the throttle about 50% or more, but at highway speeds light throttle (flat land) I cannot hear it at all vs the stock set up.

I will tell everyone that JON is 100% correct. For those of you who were around early last year you might remember I bought the K&N Intake which is almost identical to yours for my 2014 2.4L. Advertised the same gains and had "dynos" to prove it. I got a baseline dyno (real one) and then one after fully tuned with the K&N intake. Lost mid-range TQ, non-existent mid range HP, gained a few up top. Threw it in the garbage 2 months later. The stock airbox performed better, real dynos to prove it. Not sure what else to say.....
I have the dyno chart sitting on my desk, this is where I got the numbers from. However I cannot show the chart as stated form k&n because the product has not been released to the public.
A 5 hp increase is not noticeable in the lower to mid range as you stated, and as I stated the 15 was only from 5700-6000. So in day to day operation the hp increase will never be noticed or used. The reason I believe the 15 hp gain was due to the better air flow in conjunction with vtec at higher rpms.

Rough. Yeah Id be willing to bet my car, on paper, would be slightly quicker putting in the stock intake. As Ive admitted in hopes people take it into consideration before they buy an intake. I bought mine for the bling. The concept of simply HAVING an intake. Literally. Its just there to say it is. Not because it makes the car any quicker. It doesnt.
Thanks for chiming in OSU. Hows the ILX treating you? Not sold it yet?

No i'm holding onto her tight right now. Only 14K miles on it. I drive the Jeep for my daily especially with the damn rain right now (i'm sure you've seen on the news). CAI can't go through 2ft of standing water. I am still planning on upgrading the supercharger pulley and clutch. Haven't got around to it, spent all my money on guns. Don't want to get caught with my pants down when Hilary bans them all.
My plan is still the same, upgrade to get to around 315whp (375hp), have some fun for a year or so and hopefully get into the Mustang GT350. love the acura though, just going to need a change at some point ya know

Damn so even WITH a tune the intake showed little to no gains?

What firearms did you pick up? I worked a few years at a gun range yet still the ONLY thing Im considering is a Springfield TRP or maybe MC Op. Love both those pieces!!

within the past couple of months I bought a cz sp-01, M&P sport with some furniture, ruger lcp and a remington 870 tac. As you know from working at the gun range, problem is how much I spend on 223 ammo. 40 rd mags burn through boxes of 500 pretty fast after a few beers.
Springfield makes a nice firearm, not a big fan of the safety on the xds though.

And yeah I hear you on ammo. You can burn through so much so fast. Maybe look into reloading just the type you use for plinking?
For a while I was so close to picking up a 1911 Kimber so I could also pick up the Kimber 1911 .22 conversion for target shooting.
But a coworker had this exact set up and told me it really fucks with him using the same gun for .22 and 45. He says if he goes from one gun to another its no issue but his mind just feels like he still has the .22 when he swaps back to the 45 slide.
I cant see myself picking up another AR though. I was building an aero precision lower but ended up selling it because I lost interest.

Truth
AEM Air Intake and Air Filter Search - Aftermarket Performance
I HATE how they claim it adds 15hp.
It is IMPOSSIBLE for a small bent pipe and over-sized filter to suddenly add 15hp to a car like this. SMH
I wish I had access to a dyno to prove the gains then e-mail all these companies that make these claims.
Funny its tuned and dyno tested to imrpove accel (which most tuners will tell you SRIs kill low end torque) and ENGINE SOUND. LMAO

Well that's unfortunate ....
So overall she is saying "Californians" cannot order or purchase this product because they will not ship or sell to California since it is not yet CARB exempt? how about the OP who lives in CA who currently has it installed in his car by K&N?
Sorry if I am missing something here, I've never been too familiar with CAI's and the laws behind it.

I love that they are calling it a CAI...
First and for most AEM is selling a SHORT RAM INTAKE. Not a Cold Air Intake. Unless what they have in the picture is not what they are selling. A Cold air intake will have twice as much tubing to relocate the filter near the bottom of the bumper.
This intake will leave the filter right under the hood where the stock filter is. It may still utilize the lower air damn and draw air up from the bottom of the car but this is still an SRI just like my Takeda intake which is the exact same design.

The K&N intake could very well be CARB legal.

Yeah my new job at ModAuto/ModBargains has to follow the same rules. Can't sell things like re flash, or non CARB parts to people in Cali. If we install down pipes, we have to have them tow their car off the lot. Etc
I'm sure once it gets approved I can show my receipt to AEM/K&N and get a sticker later.
And I'm not upset about the short ram/cold air name issue. Il MAKE it a cold air lol

Either way doesnt matter. Mightcarmods attached a damn shop fan directly to the intake filter. Made zero different in performance being air from a shop fan verse engine bay. They make cool youtube videos busting car mod myths.

Well I hit my first setback.
eBay vendor cancelled my order since it was being shipped to Cali.
So il end up pulling some strings.
I can have the shop I work at ship the intake to my friend in Texas. He will mail it from there to me. #loophole

Well for those who are interested, I got the intake listed on the site and there is currently a promotion going on for orders over $200 (which this intake qualifies for).
The intake is for sale here and use the coupon code TAX10 to receive $10 off wo-woo
Last inventory check this afternoon, AEM/K&N had 7 left in stock

Amazing! So this is the company you work for, correct? Just as, yourself, I am a California resident. I will have no trouble getting it shipped to my house in SoCal?
Overall, thanks for looking out!

Well the problem is. Even if you order it on the site. It still gets drop shipped from K&N/AEM's riverside warehouse.
They will see the delivery address and cancel the order.
If your local, you might be able to work out a part pickup at ModBargains. And have the car "towed out of the lot"
Il ask our sales guys to see what can be done. But it's a real tricky/slippery slope.

I was going to say this about drop shipping companies.
Youre only bet right now would be to have someone out of state order it and pay shipping twice.
For those that don't know, just a clarification.
The intake cant be sold in California because it does not currently meet CARB requirements. Meaning that when time comes to smog check your car you would be required to remove the intake if you want to pass the visual inspection. The technician preforming the smog check will take one look at the intake with no sticker and fail the inspection.
Apologies if Im thinking of the wrong users but jspangan you asked about a shop installing this correct? You would then have to pay a shop to take it off then again to put it on if you don't feel confident or have the time to do it yourself. This would be EVERY year you have to get a smog check.
Personally, if you can take the intake off and put it on yourself no issues. You'll just have like 10-30 minutes of labor before and after each smog check. I expected to do this when I bought my intake but I guess I wont have to anymore.
You could get lucky and in time they get the intake approved or they could not as many manufacturers dont care to get things for sale in cali.
Oh the joys of car tuning/gun owning/fun having in California.
