2016 ILX Front Plate Question?

So I just picked up my 2016 ILX A-Spec with the Tech Package last night and absolutely love it. With that being said, it did come with the front plate bracket already installed. Now, are there plugs to cover up the holes should one choose to remove the entire bracket, or is patching and painting the holes through a body shop the only way?

I'm guessing there's no real way to hide them. I'd rather have the hole's then have a body shop touch it though. You could always order some touch-up paint and just paint the head's of a couple of screws and fill in the holes with them. No one but you would even notice them.

Yea. I wish that Acura did the plate brackets like Honda did a while back. THere used to be bolt holes built into the bumper, and they sold specific color matched plugs to fit inside the holes. Now, every major motor car company just drills front bumpers. It's stupid.

A bit on the pricey side at $28 (maybe less thru e Bay?), but BumperPlugs for Acura

That's prob the best way to go. Arnt they also sold in matching color codes for your vehicle as well? Makes it easy.

Yea that would work. Only issue is that the hole for the plate bracket is 1/2in. These newer brackets have a grommet inserted into the hole and the plate bracket itself bolts to it to prevent damage to the bumper. I might have to contact them and see if they can do a custom set.

Lol since I work for Acura, when I ordered my ilx I made sure I did the pre deliver inspection myself so no one would install the front plate bracket you have to drill in the front bumper.

Steven do you by chance know the diameter of the hole that those plugs will fit? I measured the holes last night on my car and they appear to be 1/2in in diameter. If these do in fact work, I will order a set.

I contacted these guys this morning and they do not have a plug big enough to accommodate the larger holes sadly. They have plugs that will fit over the hole but would need to be epoxied in, which I do not want to do.

Really not sure, i dont have the car anymore, i would call your local acura dealer or the number on the link i sent you, they should know if it will fit the ILX, i was so scared that they would drill out those holes before i bought mine that it was one of the first things i told the salesperson after agreeing on a price. DONT INSTALL A DEALER license plate on the front...

good luck...

Yea it is gonna be hard to find plugs that fit. I am really surprised that Acura does not offer them like they have in the past. Hopefully they will at some point because I hate the front plate and bracket look lol.

Looks like at some point I will have to get the bumper filled and painted. Really irritating but it is what it is. I might actually just order a new cover and have it painted then installed. Rather not leave my new car in the shop for a couple days.
