2014 ILX 2.0 Premium ANC problems
Hey everyone. I picked up a 2014 ILX 2.0 with the premium package yesterday. After driving it for a day the i am getting a headache and ear pain.
I think is is being caused by the ANC. Is there a way to disable this? Do i just unplug the connector under the glove box or is there anything else i have to do ? Do i need to disconnect the mics? If so where are they located.
I really love this car but i the headache and ear pain is just too much.
Thanks in advance.

You can turn it off by accessing the diagnostic mode through the stereo.
I believe you turn the stereo off.
Hold down the 1 and 6 button.
Then in diagnostic mode you press 1 I think to toggle anc.
I hope that is right.

Do you know if you have to disable the ANC feature in the diag every time you start the car? Or does this turn it off for good?

Imy am not sure. I have mine unplugged. I turned it off through diag as well but not sure if that stayed. I assume it does.

Ended up unplugging the cable from the module under the glove box. The diag would keep switching back to ANC ON. For anyone who needs a guide on how to take out the glove box use this guide:
GUIDE
I didn't take it out all the way. Took off the silver trim and it was enough to shove the hand in there to unplug it. Finally no more headaches and ear pains.
I did however notice that the cabin did become a little louder but i don't mind.

Interesting. You can say for sure the ANC turns back on every time?
That would explain why the people that turned it off via the diag claim to not hear any difference. It goes back to ON once they turn the car off.

Now after removing the cable from the module it still shows ANC ON in the diag menu but i know ANC is off because i feel perfectly fine.

I believe it stays off once shut off. Make sure you exit the diag before shutting off the car. By any chance did you hear any feedback from the sub after you turned anc off via the diag before unplugging?

^^ I HATE your avatar!! (lol) - Damn snow

Yea i did hear the feedback. It lasted a minute or so. But after i heard it the first time i let it go on until it stopped on its own. Then i drove for a bit and checked the diag menu again and it was back on. I turned in off and heard the feedback again. Which led me to just unplug the cable from behind the glove box.

Did you notice any change in the ELS system when you turned off the ANC?

Currently there is anot her thread of rdx or mdx I believe owners with els saying they feel their bass is underwhelming.
I mentioned anc to them and they seem to feel that both the bass and tremble increased as well as road noise. Sorry I don't have a link to that thread in on the mobile version here.

^^ No worries...I saw that in the TLX section and they commented that it changed their ELS quality but was curious if the effect was also noticeable with the ILX

Damn I just saw the tlx thread now too.
Goes to show how divided we are when the tlx rdx and ilx guys all have the same question but don't communicate together.
The ilx thread we discussed it months ago almost half a year ago maybr where as the tlx and rdx conversation seems to be more recent.
I'd say now we have 2-3 ilx owners claiming no anc improved els. As well now a couple rdx and tlx owners agreeing.

Put me down as unplugging the ANC unit behind the glove box. You will lose the awesome engine noise that was in fact piped through the speakers and putting that silly grin on your face everytime the car downshifted in Sport Mode. Thats now gone. Also now gone is the clarity from the bluetooth. You probably wont sound as good placing phonecalls. With my aftermarket amp and sub. It doesnt really matter.

Wait wtf about engine noise through the speakers?

I dont know if its an A-Spec or Tech Package feature but i noticed after unplugging the ANC module. The badass agressive engine tone is no longer present. I believe the the aggressive engine tone was being played threw the speakers. It really sounded awesome. Theres a mic in the glove box and i think it was picking up the sound of the header from there. I removed the ANC plug because i installed an aftermarket amp, audison processor and 12" sub. My sound system is now badass but no more engine tone. Thats the trade off that was done.
