2013 Acura ILX spark plug replacements

Hi All,

I'm wondering if spark plugs need to be replaced after a certain number of time? My Acura ILX has ~125,000 KM (78,000 miles) but it's obviously 12 years old. I've owned it since 2017 but have never changed the spark plugs. The Acura Maintenance Minder says to wait until ~165,000 KM (104,000 miles) so I'm not there yet from a distance perspective but I read online to change them every 7 years. I just don't know what to trust anymore so thought I'd check with the group!

I do have a maintenance minder B1 right now so will do the oil change myself. How do I inspect my tie rods and suspension?

Thanks

Luis

I would inspect the spark plus and see if they need to be replaced. For the price it wont hurt to replace them anyways given you are 3/4 of the way there. As far as suspension components, there are ways to do this when you raise the wheels off the ground. Many diy youtube videos of this process.

Your ILX likely came with NGK Iridium plugs. NGK rates these plugs as good for 100k miles - but as the other poster said, it's a good idea to take them out and inspect them.

If you're not hearing any weird noises when turning or hitting bumps in the road, you're probably fine. Worth looking at the struts to make sure they're not leaking anything. There's a boot (rubber accordion thing) covering the actual part you'll want to look at. For tie rods, it's a good idea to make sure there's still grease in the little ball joints at the end. Ditto the ball joints on your lower control arms.
