And the winner is...
Who do you think will come out on top of the format war?
Personally, I believe when all the studios decided to carry both formats (save universal) Sony was put in the position to take the gold and run with it.
But in light of recent announcements, HD-DVD will make it to the market first and by a huge amount a of time.
Sony is constantly delaying the release of Blu-Ray (and the PS3), and now one of their partners, Samsung, has also announced a delay.
So, now I think Sony was given the ball and totally dropped it.
And there is still the off chance that the release of two different formats, and lack of formal knowledge by the regualr consumer public...These people will get so confused they won't want to adopt either.

Sony has a history of introducing stuff that isn't accepted in the market, so I say HD-DVD has the best chance.
But in reality :whocares: unless you are an early adopter? I'll buy whatever succeeds and if they both fail (possible) I'll stick with DVD. I say both can fail because I don't think there are currently enough HDTVs in the market to support either.

Well I'm pulling for Blu-Ray since I'll be getting a PS3... but only time will tell...
But I'm thinking Blu-Ray will win. Right now it has better support (the only X-factor is Microsoft backing HD-DVD... b/c Microsoft doesn't like to lose at anything), better studio support and titles, and can output in 1080p via HDMI. Sure it's a little more expensive, but once 1080p titles start coming out the extra cost will be well worth it.
I'll personally be holding for for a while. Even after the PS3 is released, I'm gonna wait a bit. But in the end I'm thinking PS3/Blu-Ray all the way...

Blu-Ray - Though it is more expensive than HD-DVD to produce now (as is most new technology), the price will come down. Plus, PS3 will be using it so that should add some muscle to the format (don't mention UMDs

IMO...Sony has a proven losing track record when choosing proprietary media.
Video recording.....Betamax
MP3 players..........ATRAC
Digital cameras.....Memory sticks
DVD......................Blu-Ray

While memory sticks suck. I wouldn't call it a loser. Many people have and buy sony digital cameras.
And for Blu-Ray, let us all remember that while Sony is leading the pack...its more then just sony behind it (Samsung, LG, Pioneer, etc)
