What TV are you using for gaming?

Not sure if this thread belongs here or in the Gaming forum but I think I'll get the same answers in both...

Specifically the Xbox360 and PS3... what TV are you guys/girls using for gaming? What do/don't you like about the setup?

I'm using a Samsung LNS4095 1080p LCD TV with my 360. The detail and colors are fabulous! This model has a "game mode" to speed up the response time, reducing any motion blur. As with most LCDs, the blacks aren't true black but it's not bad. I had it connected with via VGA but went back to component because the colors were muted and the contrast was flat with the VGA. I just played co-op missions of Rainbow Six: Vegas last night with a couple of buddies last night and it was awesome. Also, the graphics of Gears of War are stunning in high def! A buddy of mine has the Sony XBR2 46" LCD on order so the 360 games should look even better .

I have a sony wega 1080i rear projection with my 360. I think it looks pretty damn good when there is no glare.

Many would say that LCD is best for gaming as they are less prone to burn in than plasmas. However, the newest plasmas are much more resistant to burn in than older models were if you take the proper precautions. The advantage of a plasma over an LCD is the better black levels. Older LCDs had problems with motion blur as the response times were too slow to keep up with fast movement. However, the newer LCD models are now quick enough to virtually eliminate motion blur. I haven't noticed any on my LCD. IMHO, if the majority of your TV usage is movies and regular TV watching, then a plasma is best. If you do a lot of gaming, I'd still go with an LCD, especially with the newest Sony XBR2/3 models that are now out.

Don't fool yourself, burn-in is still an issue, no matter what you read on the interweb. My plasma still has a slight ghost image from the "Noggin Logo". I've just about got it out and I will never hook a game system up to my panel.

The newer ones have a "game" mode which helps to eliminate the lag experienced during gaming. Earlier models perform poorly due to the lag.

Xbox 360 and PS2 are on Samsung 61" DLP. They play great.

PS3 is on Samsung 46" 1080p LCD and it looks absolutly amazing.

The "ghosting effect" is hard to spot these days since many games (GoW & Rainbow Six are two popular examples) are designed to have "lucid" graphic effects. Imagery is purposely clouded & ghosted to imitate the "fog of war". It's a popular effect on Xbox games, even the new Tony Hawk uses it in "nail the trick" mode.

That said, so long as your display can manage 8ms and under (probably even under 16ms), it's unlikely you'll find/notice any native ghosting/lag whatever.

Newer LCD's are about 8ms lag time, Sony's SXRD is 2.5 ms. I can spot a difference above 8 ms, it's more subconcious, a nagging feeling that something is wrong during sports. DLP has zero lag, due to no liquid to excite, just pure light hitting your screen.

My 50" Sammy DLP is fine. I have my PS2 and 360 hooked up to it and have never had any problems whatsoever.

Later this year I'll be scooping up (in 1080p) either a 61" Sammy DLP, 65" Mistu DLP, or 60" Sony XRD... and that TV will have the PS3 and X360 and I'll move the PS2 upstairs with the 50" Sammy mentioned above. I'm not a huge fan of LCD's and I want a big 1080p TV, so no plasma for that room which is why I'm sticking with either DLP or LCoS technologies for the next set.

I was leaning towards a DLP as well for the "bang-for-the-buck" quality. Just wanted to make sure I would get good performance gaming and watching TV/Movies

i guess i'm one of the few who still has a tube TV. running a 27" CRT sony HS420 wega with my ps3. the TV can display 720p and 1080i, but the ps3 seems to default to 720p, although i can manually override it to 1080i. which mode is supposed to be better, 720p or 1080i?

FYI, I got a few games in on the new 61" 1080P Sammy DLP before I had to pack it up and I had no problems at all on it... and I didn't even need to put it into "Game" mode...

On my Toshiba DLP 1080 my GT4 looks pixely over grays like the background mountain in El Capitan. I have Game Mode on, run it at 1080i, and put the TV on Natural mode. Is there a setting I can aqjust or am I too close? The PS2 controller cables are super short.
