Verizon FIOS

I Never had FIOS and thinking of switching to it, I currently have Optimum Online. My question is how exactly do they install FIOS? I mean do they drop a fiber optic line from the outside and use coaxials inside to the set top boxes? Or do they change the coaxial lines inside the house too?

Reason I ask is because I can save by signing up as a new customer with FIOS but Im confused by their ordering page regarding coax installation. It says that if I had coax cable previously then I wont need it. Can someone clarify it for me? Thanks in advance all

I think it means that if you have coax in the house already they will use that existing coax for running to the tvs.

When I had it in Portland it was a big box installed in a closet with a coax cable going to my modem. The internet NEVER went out once in the three years I had it there.

I did not have FIOS TV installed.

Yep, they bring fiber from the street to your house. All inside wiring is coax, they will try to use existing coax. If you care you can maybe convince them to run cat5e to the router instead of coax. That's important if you want to install your own router.

yep, had fiber run to a box on the side of the house, then some form of high speed coax ran to my modem. Internal coax used, but they put amplifiers on the coax cables

I took the coax out of the equation and just did CAT5 after the tech left
