Verizon Fios?
Verizon Fios will be available in my area very soon, just have a quick question. Right now I have Direct Tv and use Verizon DSL for my computer. I will be changing to Verizon Fios for both tv and computer. I do not have a house phone,I use my cell phone right now. Do I need a LAN line for Verizon Fios?

I'm not sure I understand the question - or the reply, for that matter. Verizon will run a cable from the street to a box in your place. They'll plug the box into the modem, which is where you'll plug in your computer or router via ethernet cable.

Does anyone know if FiOS is in NYC? I typed my address in and it said no, but i had to go through some sketchy address verifiation process, and I'm not sure it worked properly

You are one lucky SOB, I can't wait to get Fios! You do not need and Land line for highspeed Fios is Fiber Optic.

<---Has the FIOS. (currently only for data, not TV)
You don't need to subscribe to a land line. They will bill your credit card.
Just make sure you keep your account number handy. When ever you call them they will ask you for your phone number. You will then need to tell them you don't have one and then provide them with the account number.
Oh, and get it the day they light it up.

i wish you could call them and have them install at your house kinda like cable, but i know it's more involved than that. I just hate having to settle for slowass DSL for now until FIOS is installed in my neighborhood. Plus, there's no timeline, it's just kinda random.... and no way in HELL i'm giving my money to comcast.

Fiber is run to the house. It terminates at an ONT. The ONT may be on the side of your house or inside in either your basement or garage. From the ONT they run ethernet, POTS and cable TV lines.
So in short its ethernet to your router.

Here is my ONT, its in my basement.
On the left you see the black fiber optic cable.
The orange thing next to it is how it gets power.
Next to that is the grey ethernet cable that goes to my office router.
Next to that you see POTS lines that I no longer use because I switched to VOIP. BTW the POTS sounds awesome on fiber.
To the right of the pots you can see a little connector there for cable TV.
The white box next to it is the power supply and battery backup.
