Universal Remotes

Im looking for a remote that will:
-Do 90% or more of the functions of the FIOS remote. My wife is heavy with the DVR functions, plus the needed stuff.
-Samsung Blu Ray DVD player.
-LG TV
-Samsung sound bar (need on / off and volume).

The odd ball stuff is the FIOS DVR stuff and the sound bar. Any suggestions?

I've been reading a lot lately about ipad apps taking care of this. You might want to check through there.

^They all support the same range of devices. The Harmony One has a recharging station. The 650 runs on standard batteries. Someone in the reviews complained that not all of the buttons on the 650 are backlit.

You can usually find a deal on Harmony remotes. Right now Crutchfield has the One for $160 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_596ONE/...ne.html?tp=608

I have a now discontinued 880. Actually I'm on my second. The first one was dropped one too many times.

Another vote for the 880 or One. I've been loving my $60 880.

I've got the Universal Remote MX-3000. I really like it. I was proud of myself because I programmed it all by myself. I've got a 65" Mitsubishi TV, a Denon AVR, Time Warner cable DVR, Yamaha DVD Player, Pioneer CD Burner, Sylvania VCR and a Technics direct drive turntable.

Everything had to be programmed into the remote. It took a while to insure everything works right, but well worth it.

The Universal Remote was very involved-it's cool, when and if it works though.

Yes.
I have the Universal Remote MX 450 with macros installed by the tech that did the HT installer.
Would like to edit these macros.
The installer charges per hour - LoL.
Can you provide any advice on this ?? PM ??
The maual and website keep the program editing obscure
from the home user and would like to DIY.

That is because it is a professional remote in the professional line. They have very similar remotes, such as the R50 which is essentially the same remote for the consumer line. With that said, you can program the MX-450 yourself. It is all programmed on the remote itself. You press and hold the menu button until it takes you into the programming menus. I would highly recommend downloading the archive software from URC's website first, and back up your remote file. This way you can mess with the remote to your heart's content and if you mess up, you can upload the file back to where it is right now.

Now, as for the LOL as for him charging by the hour, what is the problem? This is his business, just as it is mine. Why should he work for free? Do you? Do you go to work and offer to sit at the office for free? I doubt it. Just trying to point out that it is normal practice for any pro installer to charge an hourly charge for programming.

Was walking the dog yesterday and noticed a neighbor sold their house and was moving to Vegas so they were selling everything.

Walked in, picked up a Harmony One with the charging base for $5 Couldn't believe it.

Came home, charged it, downloaded the software and set it up in my basement; works great. Actually thinking about taking it upstairs and using my Logitech 890 down in the basement.
