Toshiba Vs. Sony

Toshiba Vs. Sony
I'm looking for a 42' LCD screen for my room. I would prefer it to be as slim as possible because im planning to mount it up on the wall and dont want a fat box sticking out. I have a buddy who will be able to get me a small discount on either Sony's or toshiba's.
Now, is there any model of either brand that's the best bang for the buck? I'm planning on staying below a $1300 price bracket of the retail cost.
Thanks.

Seems like I over-estimated my space availability, so I need to step down to a 32inch. Since toshiba isnt that great, and I don't really like the lower-end sony's I'm starting to like this samsung model in particular.

Any feedback on this?

Yeah I think Samsung have good units on the price range you are looking for.......I'm planning to get either the Sony SXRD (LCos) or the Bravia or both. They are just absolutely superior and have gorgeous picture than the other brands right now......Sony is back on top of the game!!!

The Sharp Aquos had the edge for awhile before the Sony Bravia came out.....but now Sony has two winners the Bravia and the SXRD sets, they are just absolutely superior IMHO. Trust your eyes!!....look and compare before buying, traditionally Sony's are priced more but you are getting the best.

Samsung manufactures their own stuff. It's not like Zenith or Hitachi or anything which have parts made for them by top tier manufacturers..
Sony and Samsung are huge rivals... I doubt that Sony is making parts for Samsung.

However, if you can get a killer deal on a Dell b/c of your friend's discount... then go for it!

Ok well, I got it down to 2 models. They are both going to be purchased for the same price..which one would you guys suggest if the price were the same, and I'm looking for a tv that will display movies nicely...I dont play video games much, at all.

Sharp has an AWFUL picture. I think it pixelates when a snail walks by on the screen. I would never buy anything from Dell, EVER. So that leaves the Samsung or Sony. I haven't seen as many Samsungs as I have Sony. I personally wouldn't go for an LCD, but if you don't have the space to go bigger, I would spend the little extra to get the Sony Bravia. For LCD, I think it is umatched.
