television and 1080p

i am stuck on getting a 1080p tv, after seeing a demo at bestbuy with a blueray playing on a lcd flat screen i am on a conquest to get the same screen display. It was an experience watching it, wow was the screen so clean. It was ridiculous! Well i heard that the ps3 will only play 1080p with a tv that is 1080p capable only and if not the ps3 will downgrade to 480. Well i am confused a bit about this 180p,1080i etc....
i am looking at the samsung LN-S4051D, on samsungs website it says it is capable of 1080i and 1080p using the hdmi inputs it has. Then i go to best buy to check the price of the tv and also notice that they have the tv spec at 1366 x 768 max. resolution? can someone explain this?

thanks

That is not a 1080p display.

It may ACCEPT a 1080p (1920x1080) signal but it will downscale it to 720p.

Big key is to look for the resolution to state 1920 x 1080 if its less than that it will accept but like soopa said it will downscale

You would need microscopic vision to notice a difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32".

its not about microscopic vision, its just that i heard that the ps3 will downscale to 480 if you dont have a 1080p screen.

Not really. Even at 32", smaller pixels = better picture.

Take a computer monitor for instance.

But like he said, the real issue is that PS3/Blu-Ray sucks if your TV isn't 1080p.

whats the main difference between the two? do they use the same engine? the xbr3 looks real nice with the piano finish, but i dunno if its worth it especially since i dont know the differences

I just bought the KDL-46XBR3, only because I found it on sale locally at Tweeter cheaper than the lowest price I had seen online. It was in the same price range, and I prefer black over silver, so I figured why not.

Yes, the only differences are the finish. The XBR3 is piano black and the XBR2 has matte finish plastic bezels that are changeable (for $299 a pop).

If you don't mind a silver bezel, go for the XBR2, it's a better deal.

Honestly, I'm not sure I love the XBR3's finish anyway. It shows every fingerprint and reflects every bit of available light...

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get the XBR2 and buy the optional matte black bezel. It'd end up costing more but I'd prefer it over the reflective shit...

if i weren't saving up for my first house, I'd be all over the 46XBR2. My girlfriend's uncle just got the 46XBR3 and I would say the piano finish is too reflective.
