No idea, but I wouldn’t think someone buying a Plasma set is too worried about an extra few dollars a month on the electric bill.

Yes. I looked at every TV you can imagine. I had no real budget. Out of the Plasmas, the best was Fujitsu (excluding Runco), followed by Panasonic and then Pioneer. The difference between the Fujitsu is marginal at best. Now, the Panasonic HD vs ED. On HD content, the HD panasonic looks a little bitter, most people would not really notice. But on SD content, the ED TV clearly looked better. I wanted flat panels to mount on the wall, and I think the Panny plasma looks better then the DLP and LCD sets, especially in rooms that get a lot of sun. (Dave do not come in and talk about that god damn Mitsu Lcos. None of the TV's that are out and under 10k are fully 1080p capable which from what I hear will be the standard once it comes out. The Panny 42" ed is cheap, 1400 delivered. In 2 years when the new 1080p sets are available I will upgrade to them, but right now, I dont see the point of buying anything else. The new samsung DLP's coming in june are the closest thing, but cant accept 1080p as a direct input from what i hear.

Note, when I say Panasonic, I am reffering to their commercial displays, not consumer.

I know what you mean about the sunlight issue. That’s one of the drawbacks of a big display.
I would have gone DLP or LCD and a nice set of window blinds myself.
I never met a Plasma that I was tempted to buy at any price.

Sorry to go off topic, but that’s just my opinion.

DLP and Most LCD's arent flat panel. Plasmas are brighter, and burn in is an issue but I dont watch a lot of shows where that is a problem. Plasma life really isn't a problem, these will last 25,000 hours. The PQ on this was far better then any of the DLP or LCD sets in the 3-4k range, and these are only 1400 each. Like I said, I am waiting for the true 1080p sets.

Nice. I'm thinking about getting two of those -- one for the front three, one for the back three, although something like that for the rear is overkill, I know.

did you check out the hitachi directors series stuff? they look almost as good as the pioneer elite but they are much cheaper and the prices on them have dropped twice in the last two months.

Good eye. Yes, it’s an Anthem AVM30. I got it last year.
I downloaded the software upgrade, but haven’t installed it yet. I’m still running 1.0
I love this processor. It replaces my old Lexicon DC-1.

My speakers are (4) Atlantic Technology 370-Series surrounds in the back and (3) Boston 500-Series up front.
I think the new Boston stuff is junk, but these are old school models from back in the late 90’s when I got them.
Bass is handled by twin SVS 20-39 CS+ Subs.

I’ve been thinking about replacing the speakers a few times, but have listened to several demos and nothing makes me want to get out the credit card.
Even some systems costing 5-6K without Subs.
I’ll keep what I have for right now.

I have Monster Cable Power HTS5100. It has both digital Volt and Amperage read out. It has also saved my entertainment system many many time. At one time, the voltage of the entire fed by PG&E dropped from 110v to 90v (showed on the Monster Power Digital read out) and it automatically turned off all the outlet.

I'm using one of these. I realize Monster is not the greatest (and arguably overpriced), but it should be good enough I guess. Supposed to clean up and smooth out the current for better performance as well.

I am planning on running "whole home" surge suppression. For about $200 I can provide surge suppression in every circuit in my home by placing a surge suppressor in my breaker panel. I have a Siemens panel so I am going to use their product - they are sold at Home Depot.. Siemens Link

Besides speed, lightning energizes the air (google EMP). Even items not plugged in can get fried if you house gets directly hit. Then to add, the power sent from the lightning strike through your power lines can EASILY jump past the entire circuitry of the power conditioner/supressor rendering it useless... Figure the bolt already jumped 1000's of feet to hit your house, jumping 6-10 inches past the surge circuitry is a walk in the park

They are very useful though for brownouts and spikes. I wouldn't run any of my audio/video equipment without one. You have a good chance of experiencing a brown out or a spike. The odds of you getting directly hit by lightning is so small. In fact most cases of equipment fried isn't from a direct hit, it's from a nearby hit.

Again all of the devices are useless against direct lightning strikes. Call your insurance, or use the insurance provided by the unit

b.t.w.

A lot of what was posted on here are LINE CONDITIONERS (the 19" rack units) not really surge suppressors. They really have two different purposes. A line conditioner will help with small spikes, but it's really designed to provide CLEAN A/C power to audio/video equipment to limit noise on the A/C line which can adversely effect the audio/video circuitry reproduction quality.

I hope so. Mine is a line conditioner, but I am assuming it protects against some level of surges as well (at least it better for the money it cost.)

My audio/video equipment is as follows:

Rotel RC-1090 preamp
Rotel RB-1092 amp
Rotel RCC-1055 CD changer
Aiwa CD burner
Denon DVD1000
Scientific American 8810 HD box
Mitsubishi 55" RPTV
B&W ASW800 sub
B&W N804 mains

All plugged into a Rotel RLC-1040 conditioner/protector (a rebadged APU unit.

It has saved my equipment a number of times.

Technically it is a Power Conditioner but my Monster HTS5000 (see post on page 1) https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...37&postcount=7 also took on a strong surge 6 months ago & it took one for the team. All gear went dead that was hooked up to it and a loud audible "buzz" came from the unit. None of my other equipment was damaged and I called Monster the next day & within the week they had a replacement unit -the HTS5100 with digital meter. Since the HTS5000 was discontinued they sent the most comparable unit currently in production.

Monster may be "overpriced junk" to many folks, but their customer service, at least in my experience was top notch.

Damn, nothing like bumping up a topic that's a year and a half old!!

Anyway, both of our setups have simply surge protectors. Spent like $50 on each of them at Wal-Mart and so far everything has been great... even through the severe storms that rumble through here in the summers...

It's similar to the one linked below... about 2600 joules and a $250k protection plan... $50.

Wouldn't say they're junk... but definitely overpriced... especially their cables. If I've ever referred to them as junk it was b/c I was duped into buying their cables... but that was a long time ago... and i'm over it now (especially since I found monoprice.com) so now it's just overpriced
