super cheap media center?

i'd like to hook up some sort of media center to my bedroom TV. I currently have a PS3 with an external in the family room with 500+ movies. I'd like to be able to get something that would allow me to just bring my external into the bedroom.

I thought about moving my Apple TV to the bedroom, but would rather use it for music on the main tv

NSXNext recommended a refurbished roku for $60 but that's way overkill for me, and too pricey at the moment

if $60 is too pricey I don't think there's much of a solution available for you. I was going to recommend the WDTV Live until I read that. Does your TV support DLNA, maybe you don't need anything to begin with.

There is your answer. Or get an old laptop and load the files on it.

Stream from my PC to my Droid X and load to my TV via the droids HDMI connection?

Would that work?

Haha that is an awesome solution! I wonder how much lag there would be, prob minimal though. Just make sure you have you phone charging at the same time so you don't drain the battery while doing this.

I'm guessing I can't do that on the normal Moto Droid huh? Sounds pretty sweet.

Just a micro-usb one, maybe a good reason to upgrade to a Droid X

Not to hijack but does Apple TV support as many formats as the WD TV Live or other similar media centers? Will it even play stuff not downloaded through iTunes or Netflix?
