Sharp 37" 62U
I can't speak for this particular model... but I recently picked up a used 26"Sharp LCD (off Craig's List) to be used solely for gaming and all I can say is the picture quality is absolutely amazing... and this model's about 1.5-2 years old... (and it's not 1080p either) so I would think the model in question can only be even better...
That is pretty much the going price at most non-ripoff places.
The LC32D62U and its 37" sibling both great TVs, but they have drawbacks compared to other models out there now. First they are 60Hz sets, but their pixel response times are great. The LC32D62U and 37 D62U actually have one more model higher which are the LC37GP1U. These models include DVI, which the D62U models don't, and have something (vyper drive) which is supposed to give you better response times - the GP1U models are aimed at gamers. I've been wanting to get an LC-32GP1U for about a year now, but their prices are just way too high.
The D62U is a great set, but the other drawback right now is the fact that these models have been out for a year now, so the D62U and GP1U models are probably getting cleared out before the new models come out. AFAIK, there is no replacement for the GP1U yet, so I would assume the same is the same for the lower-end D62U line. Hopefully once the replacements come out, the 32" GP1U model will finally retail for less than $1k!

I went to the store and they had 2 new sharp models on display. Both were 32" for a little more than a grand.
But... The colors from Sharp seem very bright. Like... right in your face kinda bright. especially Red, Blue, and Green. The Sammy right next to it is softer. Is it how it is or the guy in the store cranks up the color for the Sharp?
Both have greater details compared to the JVC or Toshiba though.

It's hard to compare TVs in big box retailers unless you fiddle with the settings to ensure they're on a level playing field.
I'm watching a the news right now on my 42" Samsung 1080p and its colors blow away the 1080p Sony LCD that is in the bedroom.

The 62u had a lot of problems when it was introduced. The 64u series is much much better and more reliable.
Don't base your televisions by what they look like in the stores. They always fiddle with settings to make some sets look better than others.
