Question Sammy DLP; about to pull the trigger....help!

I was in Circuit City today and saw this Samsung DLP on sale for $1899.99,
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsu...oductDetail.do

Anyway when I got home I looked up this model on Amazon and its selling for $1599.99 OTD. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HLT618...9175177&sr=1-2

Based on the model number its the same TV, but in the pictures you can tell the two TV's are different even though the specs seem the same.

Also I am seeing some complaints about the screen "bowing" near the bottom. Others call it "a cheap piece of junk". Any of you guys with a similar DLP TV have problems like this?

I assume you're shopping DLP because you would like a large 60"+? Have you considered a projector? Not sure if that application would work for you.

Given the significant advances in LCD and Plasma over the last year, I would lean that way, but if you're looking for a 61" TV, that's tough to pass up. At least there's no color wheel.

I've got a 56" Sammy DLP and it was the best decision I could have made. LCD's are nice, but were WAY more then my budget allowed.

A 1080P 56" LCD equivalent would have ran me about $3K more. I have absolutely no issues w/ my DLP and love it. Blu-ray movies and HD content look absolutely amazing.

I almost got the 61" but am glad I didn't, it would have simply been to big for where I have it.

I do have the "bowing" effect when in 4:3 aspect. I noticed it the first day and had them send me a new TV that still did it. This is normal w/ ALL DLP TV's. It's one of those sacrifices I guess. That said. It does bother me a tiny bit, but I'm in 4:3 so rarely that it's not really much of an issue.

cool thx!

I'm glad I put a raincheck in at Fry's for yesterday's sale price of $1799.99. Thats the price it is on Amazon as well. $1799 is the cheapest in town. They just got one in today and put it on hold for me so maybe I can buy it after work. Not sure if I will be able to get it home tonight though. Perhaps I can strap it on the roof of the TL.. Amazon has free shipping, but I kind of want it in time for the National Championship game. So I guess I'll pay the extra $108 in taxes to get it now.

I also had my eye on the KDS-60A3000 (Sony), but the Fry's guy told me the lamp only lasts an average of 5000 hours while the Sammy is around 20,000. Not sure how acurate that is. Does anyone know much about the KDS-60A3000? It seems like a good picture and was $200 cheaper than the Sammy.

Finally, is the "performance plan" worth the money? I personally don't think it is. So any opinins would be helpful. At circuit city it was $450 for two years I think, and it supposed to replace two bulbs free of charge plus cover again power surges and things like that. I bought it for my current full screen HDTV I got 5 years ago, but I never even used it.

I don't see a need for the performance plan, samsung has a 1 year warranty and they are pretty good w/ their customer service

I did it fo my 50" DLP and the something went wrong in the DLP projector 2 years later....I got a whole new projector and bulb. It would have cost me about $850 to fix out of pocket.

Circuit City's plan sucks. I bought the Best Buy 4yr maintenance package for $150.

Have had a 56in Sammy DLP for just over a year and love it

I've never noticed the "bowing" on 4:3. I prob will now that you said something about it though.

I had a 46" DLP for three years and only noticed the bowing near the end. The screen is slightly flexible and gravity pulls at it over the course of time. You can see it with any projection TV. Luckily, 4:3 will be obsolete soon. The only concern I ever had with the TV was overscan.

I've had my "ultraslim" 56" Samsung DLP for several months and I love it. I would have purchased the 61", but because of the size of the base/tv stand, I had to gets something that fit it correctly. I also purchased from Amazon, best price I found.

Hmmm I must have been looking at the wrong one before. Amazon doesn't even have the one I saw at Fry's and Circuit City. They only have the "AX" version. but its $300 more.

This is the one I'm getting

SAMSUNG HLT6187S
http://shop3.outpost.com/product/522...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

It's listed at $1877, but I have a raincheck on it for $1799. Circuit City had this same TV on sale for $1899.
