Question about Samsung
Question about Samsung
Do any of you guys know if Samsung makes a 56" plasma TV? The reason I am asking is because some guy I know just told me that he can get one for way under the retail price. I did some research and see that Samsung only makes DLP TV's in 56". which is fine because if it were DLP I would jump on the deal. If its Plasma I might not because Plasma TV's are not good for XBOX's and more suseptible to Burn in. I asked him to see if he could find out the moel number so I could check the specs, but he doesn't know.

Probably a DLP. Also probably the 720p DLP since the new ones (2006 models) are not due out for a few weeks. New 56" DLPs will not only be 1080p, but also have the new LED light engine which will replace the color wheel

There is a 50" Samsung DLP (HL-R5078W) that has 1080p. I saw it online at Circuit City today.

Out of curiousity, is there any technical reason why the new DLP light engine (and for that matter Sony's SXRD) aren't being introduced at a 42" size? I've been running under the assumption that it's simple market demand and economics.
50" is just too damn big for my room. I'm hoping that I'll eventually be able to consider one of the latest generation rear projection technologies. I just wonder how long it will take.

Buyer beware on being an early adopter of new technology. I would allow at least a year for all of the complaints to file into AVSforums before dropping significant coin on that. They are adding two new major features this year, 1080P via HDMI, and the LED engine, that's reason enough to give pause. If it was just the 1080P thing I would still wait until the HD DVD players came out to see how that works out.

The 1080p via HDMI is really not a big deal. The TVs already all support 1080p, they're just adding it to that input... so if that was the only upgrade I wouldn't think twice about buying it... but the LED light engine is a biggie and I'm glad the 56" will be the test mule
