question about plasma hdtv's

So looking to get a new tv, in particular this 42" panasonic plasma 720p tv. My question is how will the picture quality be if I connect my satelite receiver which gets normal signal to it via svideo cable? i just don't want to deal with replacing all my things right now to get hdtv and I have a edtv panasonic plasma in another room and like the picture quality on that. If it will look just like my edtv panasonic than I will be satisfied for the time being.

It will probably be fine. But man, you are really missing out on some good PQ by not upgrading your satellite.

^^^ Yeah...would you buy a Corvette and then drive with the e-brake on? Buy the necessary cables from somewhere like monoprice.com or bluejeancables.com You'll save a ton compared to buying at BB or CC

I know what you guys are saying just that at this point in time I don't feel that it is worth it as most of the channels I watch aren't in hd. The only reason why I am getting another tv is my previous one is broken. I'll probably change later just not at thus point in time.

Are you leasing your current box? You can probably just pay more per month.

Even if you don't think you'll watch much HD...you will. Trust me, when I first got an HDTV over 4 years ago, there was not much on, but I would watch whatever was one merely b.c I was enthralled with the HD picture. Trust the many of us who have it....once you "get" it, you won't know how you lived without it.

Definitely get the Panny 42" (Probably the 42PX75U ?). I have it and it's an amazing tv, and at a very good price as well. (Check frys.com as they often have it for $899 shipped in the lower 48).

And get a new dish that does HD and run those cables... trust me you'll LOVE it. there is no comparison between Sd/EDTV and HDTV. Ok, wait, there is a comparison: HDTV > *.

Analog s-video to a 720p set?

Fawk no. Don't be a cheap ass. Spend a few bucks and do it right.

yep, I used to work at compUSA and we were able to buy everything at cost; one thing I noticed was that the markup on the cables were ridiculous.

Example, I still have a 6 foot gold USB cable that retailed for over $20, and I was able to buy it at cost for under 4 bucks.
