Polaroid FTL!
I bought my first HDTV back in September of 2007, and I was happy as a clam...
....when it was working. Now I will never buy another Polaroid 42" 1080p TV again.
When I first bought the TV, I brought it home all excited. When I first hooked it up, there was a loud buzzing/electrical sound in the back of the TV, and the local Circuit City did not have another one in stock, so I had to drive another 30 minutes to get a replacement.
I brought the replacement home, and I was happy for about a month. Then the blue screen of death came on the TV, saying something like "The HDTV content protection on your display has been compromised. Please hook hp the component cables to receive further HDTV programming." This was because of the HDMI cables.
I called Polaroid, and they sent out a replacement part that I could have installed, but a trained "technician" had to do it, so I had to wait another couple of days.
Technician comes out, replaces it, and it happens again three weeks later. Another call, another week of waiting, another part.
This happened two more times, and finally I told them to get me another TV.
After waiting for another month, they got me another TV. I hooked it up and there was a nice big crack in the screen. I know it wasn't Polaroid's fault, but still. I was upset. I told them to send me ANOTHER TV, and they did, and I just got it yesterday. No problems except for curves look like they were drawn by a damn cerebral palsey student using an Etch-A-Sketch! I could see the individual lines and blocks. There was not problem with the cable because the old TV did not do this. I then put back the old TV, called Polaroid, and told them I wanted my money back. They will look it over, send a box for the TV, and once they receive the TV, will then decide on a refund. I better get it or the Apocalypse will be coming.
I now am in the market for a 42" 1080p HDTV under $1400. Any suggestions?

A friend of mine just picked up a 1080p Panasonic plasma at Costco for I believe $1200, and it came with a $200 in store rebate, so $1000. Not sure if they still have the deal, but worth checking into.
