New Vizio 47" 1080P LCD for $1649

I've been waiting for a while to find a inexpensive 1080P set for my home office. This one just came out this week.

http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=20

It's MSRP is $1899, but Costco is supposed to have a $250 off coupon starting 1/15. So $1649 seems like a great deal.

A couple questions though, It mentiones Maximum Panel Resolutions and Supported Native Resolutions. What's the difference there?

Also, it's Contrast Ratio is 800:1, doesn't that seem really low?

That contrast ratio sounds low as my Samsung 46" is 6000:1

I saw that TV at Costco last night... and I have to admit... under that.... bright, unpleasant, florescent lighting... it looked damn good... I, honestly, couldn't tell much difference to the Sony 1080p LCD next to it... and those are like $3k+

Vizio is actually a pretty good brand... Cnet deemed it damn impressive for the price and Vizio's 50'' plasma (one we got) was on the 2005 top 10 best Christmas gifts even with it's 7.1 overall score

I recently got the 32'' Vizio LCD 699$, plus tax free since I have Re-Sale Status.

Happy so far......... 2 hdmi port, 1200:1 contrast ratio,and 720p 1080i
http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=18

and can't beat the price....the comparable Olevia didn't look good at all.
The Vizio seems to be a nice t.v indeed.

w0rd. Native resolution is only 1366 X 768.

BTW... Pioneer makes a 1080p set in their elite series.

on the surface. 7" screen size difference (47" Vizio, 40" Sony), 1080P(Vizio) vs 720P(Sony) , 1 HDMI(Sony) vs 2 HDMI(Vizio).

I did see the 46" Sony Bravia 1080P sets at Costco and the picture didn't look that much better to justify the $3000 price tag, $1400 more than the Vizio.

Vizio is a "pretty damn good brand" when comparing it to other off-brand labels like Oleva, Maxent, and so on... but in the grand scheme of things, it isn't that great.

PQ is typically average at best, and one of the Consumer Reports I had from about 2 months or so ago has Vizio listed in the table under highest repair rates.

Typically you get what you pay for... and with TVs it is especially true. It's not a bad secondary set for a guest room or home/office, but they have a long way to go before they can compete with the big boys in the mind of most consumers.

...just got back from Costco, that coupon started today, they sold All 40 units, and are on rain checks!! I was tempted to ask for a rain check, but I've been spending too much money lately. I bet there will be better deals later. or maybe Sony's Bravia will drop a little... (maybe next year when I'm ready to buy )
