New TV - Recommendations
I am in the market for a new TV. Currently, i have a 32" Sony Bravia LCD. I just moved to a bigger place and this TV is tiny for my living room.
I narrowed down my brand choice to Samsung, I have heard nothing but good things about them from this site alone, but it seems every store is pushing Sammy over Sony.
So, I have 2 choices I am considering right now, but they are 2 different types of TV.
First choice: Samsung 46" LCD
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...oid=175544&c=1
Second choice: Samsung 50" DLP
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...oid=207072&c=1
Now, I have no experience with DLP. I have seen them in the stores, but never in someones house. My only concern is the contrast ratios. The DLP is 2500:1 and the LCD is 15000:1. Im not sure if the screen type makes the contast ration higher/lower but thats a big difference in contrast.
My budget is $1500 and I would like to get something this weekend. I am going to Circuit City so I can finance it for 18months with no interest on my card. Any other suggestion would be great.
Basically, I will use this TV for everything, including gaming and movies, it will be the main house tv, so take that into account when you make a suggestion
Thanks alot

I know you said this weekend and you wanted 18mo finance but....
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN46A5...5016309&sr=8-1
free shipping
no tax
page says 36 mo no interest when you sign up for the amazon card
this is a new (march) model, what you are looking at is discontinued (nothing wrong just older) I believe
If your budget was larger I would say go for the 650 or 750 series; top of the line. 550 has an older panel, 3 hdmi, no TOC.

A little out of my range right now.
Adam, I will look into the Amazon deal. If I can ge the card, this will work great. Thanks for the help
Ignore contrast ratio ratings. They won't reflect the true performance of a tv. As for DLP, make sure you don't see the "rainbow effect" that some people can see when they view this type of tv. If the DLP tv is backlit by leds, then the effect is cancelled out.

7 series has the LED and no color wheel
I would stay away from 6 series.
If you want a 50" DLP go with the
Samsung HLT5087SAX 50-Inch Slim LED Engine
You can still find them on Amazon...but they are disappearing quickly.

That said, there are deals these days and 650/750"s can be had at a reasonable price. I just bought the 750 and love it, even with the lighted edges.
Crutchfield is running 1499 on the HL61A650 DLP tv, it's 61 inches, has HDMI 1.3, 120 hertz processing and a whole bunch more stuff. Ordered one for my aunt today. Also if you call them and tell them that its 1309 on other sites like fotoconnection.com and shopdigitalonline.com, they can give you a 100 dollar off coupon to use, plus free shipping, white glove delivery, and no payment, no intrest for 12 months!

The whole thing is I really don't "need" to always have the latest and greatest. I watch some movies, play some video games and thats about it. To me, spending upwards of $3000 just because its the newest tech is not worth it for me. I can get last seasons model and be satisfied. too much reading is not doing me any good. I went from wanting an LCD, to maybe wanting a DLP and now looking into plasma because the prices dropped and they have nice pictures now as well. I think Im gonna get me a CRT and call it a day
There are so many opinions that run rampant in every one of these types of threads. Specs alone will not necessarily mean anything to you. Everyones eye is different. The best recommendation is for you to go look at as many of the tv's in your price range at various stores, using various sources. Do not go and view JUST blu-ray for instance. Check how a regular digital cable signal will look. Make sure it meets all of your expectations.
