Need help on configuring my cable box

So I finally got my TV and I finally swapped my cable box (digital basic from Time Warner here in NC) to HD box yesterday. They provided component cables and audio cables (red, white) so I hooked it up to my TV on its Component 1 setting. Cable company sends me signal but everything looks DIM. I'm hearing a very loud static noise when I turn my volume up. I check the HD channels and I can tell those channels are coming in crystal-clear but still picture quality is dim. I don't know if it's the box, the cables they provided or the settings on either box or my tv. On box, under TV ouput I had options of 480p, 480i, 720p and 1080i. Currently I have it set at 720p only. Should that be changed? Other than that I don't know what the problem is. I've scheduled their technician to come out mid-next week to look at it but I would like to get this fix RIGHT AWAY so I finally watch my games on HD.... any ideas???

I would try a different component setting on the TV. Also, be sure that you have not mixed up the red audio cable with the red video cable. The component cables that come from the cable company aren't exactly grouped together, so it's very easy to mix up the red cables and I've seen it done several times...

Also, what is your TV's native resolution via component? Odds are that it is 720p, so you're probably fine, but you may want to just double check...
