Looking for outdoor speakers

Is there such a thing as a good sounding outdoor speaker?

I want to put a pair of speakers in my backyard and possibly drive them with the multi-room feature of my AVR335.

While I expect these things to survive rain, can they handle summer temps and how about winter freezes?

I fall into the "the speakers are outdoors and thus subjected to rain, snow, extreme temperatures, etc." group and don't believe in getting nice outdoor speakers. I had a pair of KVH (or something like that) that I bought from Best Buy for $30/pair in our old house. They were 4 years old when we moved out and were doing well. I got another pair of these same brand speakers for our new house and they have been doing well. Alas, my wife wants a white pair of speakers instead of the black so I'm getting another pair. I', probably going to get the cheapie brand that Circuit City has on sale this week. I have very nice speakers in my house, but I don't see the point in spending a couple fo benjamins for outdoor speakers that have to deal with all of the outdoor sounds. Just my $.02....

We have outdoor speakers that came with the house. Not sure off-hand of the brand, I'd have to look it up. They cost about $130 each. They sound great, and have no problem dealing with the Carolina heat, thunderstorms, and even the cold winter nights in December and January. Also no problems making it through the sleet/freezing rain we got once or twice this past winter.

They're great, they swivel so we can adjust them, and they have their own volume knob right inside the door from the deck so we can adjust the volume accordingly....

That's the right brand name. Thanks!

I agree you get what you pay for but....how important is it to pay $$$ for a set of speakers that will be subjected to the weather and then asked to reproduce sound in an environment that is saturated with ambient sounds and distractions? I think that outdoor speaker are made for background music, not critical listening. Like I said, personally, I'm not going to sink a couple hundred bucks into a pair of speakers that a couple of kids could easily come up, unscrew them, and take off with. Just my
