reading more reviews about the D550, they are pretty bad and scattered. LG is still to new to have any significant reviews unfortunately. We'll see where we go.

I'm not in a HUGE rush, I may wait for some memorial day sales

So i've got an old Samsung 56" DLP (before the slims). I put a new bulb in it a few months ago, TV has been great (screen is a little bowed from a move but picture works well).

How do these new budget plasma's compare picture wise to the old DLP's?

depends on what you define as "budget"

Problem is nowadays the a companies most top end TV is only the top end model because they've loaded it up with tons of useless shit (apps, netflix, wifi, etc)

And if you look closely at their product line, you'll find the model or two below it has the same specs...just not as much of the shit you'll never use.

The words budget and plasma and not synonymous to me. A bad plasma is pure shit.

LG...they are getting higher rankings but I still think they have a bit to come. My FIL just bought a 55" LG LED...and I'm not a big fan (ill never tell him that, but he'll never notice a difference anyway)

You really just have to go to a big box store and physically see all the TVs in person, and hope the idiots there have hooked them up somewhat properly to view.

Personally, I'd go for a smaller TV. At 60 inches, $1,300 won't get you much in terms of quality. LG is known for not having great black levels, which is supposed to be one of the main selling points for plasmas.

I'm on a budget with this whole buy since we've got another baby on the way.

I went and looked at the TV at 3 different stores, it looked very good IMO, so I got it, should be here tomorrow from amazon for $1,130. I figure it'll be a nice change over my 7 year old DLP.

now, time for the rest of everything, i ordered this receiver last week:

I now need speakers...the townhouse is pre-wired with j-box's for the front speakers on a wall, and the surround sound in the ceiling.

I'm looking at these speakers:

Amazon Amazon

and using these mounts

Amazon Amazon

I'd like to spend the least amount I can on mounts, but also don't want to drill any holes (was thinking of buying jbox covers and mounting cheaper mounts to those, but may cost the same in the end)
