Which means if you watch 6 hours of TV a day it would take 45 years to get where the panel is 1/2 as bright as it is now.


Short Answer: Yes, look as good as the day you brought it home. Unless you leave the thing on 24/7; and if you do it'll take 11 years to get to 1/2 brightness

That's a nice panel! Better (more accurate) in some ways than the Panasonic V series. Be interesting to see how the Z series Panasonic compares.

My only reservation with Samsung is quality and service issues. Reading around I don't get the warm and fuzzy with them. I find myself hesitant to buy a plasma unit from them.

I'm going to pickup a 65" V series Panasonic later this year.

i remember my dad complaining back in 2005 when he was ordering our current 43"? pioneer plasma that many of the websites that offered them for cheap didnt include a warranty.


its kind of a waste thou getting such a nice TV for our living room, all we have to hook it up to is plain ol' basic cable (no cable box), a 1st generation DVD player from 1998 and a VHS player
although i will hook up my ps3 and 360 to it.

I'm in the market for a new TV....as I might have a buyer for my old 37in Westinghouse that's like 3 years old.

So far I'm looking at the Samsung LN46B630, Samsung LN46A650, and now after reading the forums, I'm considering the Panny P46G10, although I'm not sure how I feel about plasma...

It looks like the LN46B650 is new for 2009, while the LN46A650 was 2008 (glossy), as was the LN46B630 (matte)

Cnet said the picture quality was better on the LN46B750, which is $240 more. it also adds 240 Hz processing.

for samsung, the B series is the '09 line and the A series is the '08 line. Also from what I remember, the X30 have a matte screen while the X50 have a glossy screen.

Mizouse, the G15 is pretty much identical to the G10, but it is about 2" thick as opposed to 4", similar to the V10.

wow, really dom? If they were the same then I would do it, but considering it's just a cosmetic issue, I wouldn't waste the extra cash on it. Apparently it MIGHT have one more HDMI port as well, but not sure. If anything, I would shell out the extra cash for a V10. The G10 is slim enough as is, so I don't see the point in losing 2 more inches for the G15.

The G15 is exclusive to 1 chain up here But its the same price as the G10 that's sold elsewhere.

How are you liking it so far? Any IR issues? I know IR is supposed to be non-existent but I thought I'd ask anyway,

None whatsoever. I love this TV very much. Also, quite a few people complain about the flicker in 24p/48hz, but it's only on VERY bright white scenes, and your eyes get used to it after a couple of minutes. The quality is just superb. Plus, with the insanely low prices that are out there right now on this set, it's pretty much a given that you should get it

Id go for the v10 because of the 96hz 24p but for me I'd have to shell out another 700 and because it's 50" it might be a bit too big for the current TV stand we have and hang over the edges a little bit.

I'm in the process of looking into getting it from the US. No Buffalo area Best Buy carries the TV. So I'll have to look for another Buffalo area retailer that does. At today's prices, I'd be saving about a grand. But wouldn't have a warranty. Although I could go with a 3rd party warranty.

No doubt. Like I said, you can't go wrong with this TV. It's just an awesome all-around set that you can't beat for the price. After switching over to Plasma, LCD just doesn't compare (unless you go HIGH end).

Is it something really noticable?

As mentioned, the flicker is only noticeable in very bright white scenes. However, your eyes adjust to it after a few minutes. Personally, I think people are too nit picky, but that's just me . I think the quality with 24p/48hz is enough of an edge over the 'flickering' so it doesn't bother me. But, one other thing to note, is that I have only seen about 3 BD movies, and it wasn't bad in either film. Yet other movies could be a lot worse.

So I picked up a 50" G15 last night. IR has always been at the back of my mind and I already saw some last night. My wife had put a radio station on which has bright white letters. It was only on for a few minutes yet there was some IR. You could only see it when the radio station image went out and the screen was black. I'm not going to do a loopoing break in for 120 hours as suggested at the AVS forums but I've set contrast and brightness to below 50 and I'll make sure not to watch any 4:3 for the first 120 hours.

Other than that the picture is hit and miss. I guess it all depends on the source. At times the image is simply stunning and others grainy. I also don't think its as sharp as the A750 Sammy LCD I had which seems to go with what Siggy was saying about square vs round pixels. The Plasma image seems softer, but in a good way I think.

I'm waiting for a new power cord for my Blu-Ray player so I havn't been able to test 1080p yet.

At this point I'm not convinced the effort required to avoid IR is worth it. I have 2 small kids and a wife who doesn't care for things like avoiding 4:3. So I'm kinda worried I'll ruin the TV if not properly broken in. At this point I'm not seeing the superior IQ vs LCD to justify the work. Or maybe I'm being too paranoid about IR?

The one thing this TV does have going for it is the price. It's cheaper than any decent Sammy 52" (B610) and about the same or only slightly more than a V series Sony and Sharp E77. Any LCD rated higher than those are insanely priced.

First off, congrats on the purchase! Where did you end up buying the G15 at?

Anyways, trust me when I say this (considering this is my first plasma as well), I was and am paranoid about IR. Which, when it came to the first 120-200 hours, I was on top of it. But here's the thing, I decided NOT to use the break-in slides. Rather, I left the picture set at Normal and was VERY picky as to what could be watched on the TV. I mainly watched all high def, and made sure there were no static logos on any channel. Also, if I watched any non-HD content, I just used the zoom function, and if necessary, adjusted the zoom so that the static logo would be out of the screen.

Also, don't judge the picture yet. For one, you're using shitty settings for the most part, so wait until you can mess with the picture settings, such as D Nice on avsforums with his SM offsets. Next, the picture, after the first 120-200 hours, will get noticeably better. Regardless, I would scope out the avsforums and keep up to date on the G series threads and Calibration. Now that I'm around 300 hours, I have it set up quite nicely until D Nice posts his offsets. Good luck, and be stingy with the remote for now! haha
