Haven't really seen the SXRD stuff.

The Bravia XBR is a pretty sweet LCD.

I dont know what I would buy anymore....best thing Ive seen overall (to my eyes) so far is the Sony 61" and 70" XBR RP LCD tvs.

My boss just purchased a 50" Sony SXRD.

It hasn't been installed in his house yet but I did go with him to look for TVs and the SXRD had a better picture in our eyes than any DLP in the store.

The Sony SXRD's are hot... but if you're in the market for one... I would wait a few more months until the 2006 models come out. The current SXRDs do not support 1080p via the HDMI port, however, the new models WILL have this feature. Even though nothing is 1080p now, or will be for some time, to me it doesn't make sense to spend all of that money on a 1080p TV that won't even be able to show 1080p via HDMI when those devices do finally hit the shelves. Put the money away, earn a bit of interest, and buy one later in the year

LCoS/SXRD is a superior technology compared to DLP/LCD... no matter how you twist it.

The only possible contention could come from LED based DLP.

The problem with LCoS/SXRD is that it's extremely expensive to produce and due to a lack of consumer demand probably won't remain in the market place for very long. Just look, LCoS barely ever got consumer traction and it was already altered by Sony and marketted as SXRD... in a year or two it's likely neither will be around. Sony will come up with a cheaper technology to compete with Samsung's DLP's (Sony's LCDs, by and large, cannot) as DLP's continue to get cheaper beyond the point of SXRD's cost.

Suggested retail on the 50" he got was $3,500 and I think he paid a little under that. That's still rougly $1,000 more than a similar DLP right?

i'd say go to circuit city, measure the distance from the tv, and then see

I was going to get a 42, but at most i'm only 6-7 feet away from it, so i got the 37 instead...dont want to see a pixilated image

a good sound system is more important than a huge image for that immersive feeling
