You should be using an HDMI cable for your video signal, NOT S-Video. HDMI will also carry your audio signal too.
Check with your cable company and make sure the HD set top box has an HDMI port. Then head over to monoprice.com and buy an HDMI cable. Don't pay the insane markup for a Monster cable.

Definitely do NOT use S-Video. HDMI or DVI all the way (depending on what connections your TV and set-top box supports).
If you get a PS3 you'll want to buy another HDMI cable. If you get an XBOX360, get the premium which comes with the component cables for HD.
If you have a good receiver you'll also want to buy some good optical or coax audio cables...

the only way to transmit the HD signal is through an HDMI cable (digital signal that carries audio and video) or component video cable and a seperate audio cable. like others here, I would recommend a good HDMI cable. you can always go to Ebay and buy good cables - that is where I got all of my cables

Looks like you have no choice... I think we missed it was a closeout, older model TV.

that is pretty much the TV I have - I got mine about 2.5 years ago and it still looks great. I use the Monster Video® 2 Component Video Cable for all the video signals. (I got them off Ebay like I said). I just run the video from the satilite box, xbox and dvd player through my receiver and have 1 cable going to the TV.

Just to let you know, your TV is a CRT Rear Projection, not an LCD Rear Projection. Still a good TV none the less, especially since it is an XBR.
FYI, some of the units of this model have some type of flicker problem: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-i...W40&news_id=24

Please, no Monster. There is not a single item that Monster sells that you cannot get considerably cheaper new, from a reputable retailer that is of the same quality OR better. Monster is all about OBSCENE amounts of markup. I have had people tell me about this GREAT cable they bought for like $400 or $500 that will clear up all their image problems. SUUUUUUURRRREEE. Please, just do yourself a favor and refer to www.monoprice.com for all your cabling needs.
Did the OP get his cabling issue resolved? If all you were planning on is your hd cable box hooked directly to your tv, then your cable company should have installed it with the proper cables when they came to install it.
