I finally hung my LCD

Well I got a good deal on a Sony 46" LCD and decided to move my TV stand to the basement along with the Xbox and speakers. I wanted to keep my living room as clean as possible w/out clutter:

After:

The Sony downstairs:

Nice. Lack of wire clutter on wall-mounted TV's is key.

Why didn't you do a powerbridge and hide the wires?

Too high. It's a TV, not a mirror. As long as you like it there, then

Are you talking about the hung tv or the one on the stand?

^Nice! Next house I will do that. I didn't want to put more holes in the wall, left it as is. We are going to be living here for 3-4 years. Next time I will definitely be doing something very similar to yours.

Love the Powerbridge, but my LCD is hung above my fireplace, so hiding the wires behind the wall would have been a pretty time consuming and laborious process. I'll likely be moving in 18 months anyway, so I'll find a solution then. The wires in my living room aren't that noticeable as is anyway...

Looks really nice and glad you're happy with the picture.

I'm probably going to pick up a KDL46W5100 tonight.

What mount did you end up getting? I know that Sarlaac, Audi and several others have recommended Sanus After someone posted a link in another thread to Monoprice, I was thinking about getting mounts from there along with cables.

Scrib - did you have to go through your fireblocking to run your cables? That's my only real concern with getting Powerbridge or anything like it.

I got a Sanus off Amazon. It had 5/5 on every review (166 I believe at the time)

The Samsung is hung up, I haven't used the Sony much yet. It's the S5100. I played a couple games of COD4 on it last weekend, seemed pretty good.

The Sammy's picture is definitely

For those with TV's mounted over the fireplace....is heat an issue if u use ur Fireplace? I was told that it is one, but I'm a bit skeptical. I plan to mount my TV over my fireplace when I get it this weekend.

25 months now and not an issue to report. We use our fireplace 3-4 times a month in the MN winters and I've checked the temperature of the bottom of the TV after 30-60 minutes of fireplace use and there doesn't appear to be any increase in surface temp. My fireplace sticks out a good 8" from the wall the TV probably only 3-4 inches, so there is some protection to be had in my case...

FWIW, I have both Sanus and Monoprice mounts (Two Sanus, one Monoprice). And both do the job. If I had to hang another TV or help someone hang one, I'd save the $60+ and get a monoprice mount.

As for the firewall... That wall was internal, so it was a piece of cake.

I've also used Sanus and currently have a Monoprice mount. The Monoprice was far cheaper and the quality just as good IMO.

Scrib & Dom - Thanks for the info on the Monoprice mounts. Considering their cable quality and the review on the mounts, it seemed like a pretty safe bet. With the confirmation from you guys here, it's a done deal.

I did not like the monopice-like powerbridge offering. Fortunately, there are ways to get discounts on a powerbridge.

Very cool. Thanks for the link.

BTW, did you use just the AV Cablepass or AV Cableconnects? The Cableconnect would be cleaner, but the Cablepass would save on wiring.

Cablepass. I didn't want to lose any quality by relying on those connectors...

Cleaner, perhaps... You never see it, though.

Only thing that sucks about the Powerbridge is if you're a conduit user. They give you plastic boxes and 6' of romex, which for me is useless because that's not code here. And there's no way not to pay for it.
