HP Mediasmart 42" LCD - worth it to fix?

We have this TV in our office. It's used to loop DVD's where we present different properties that we have listed for sale. It died a few weeks ago, no lights, no nothing. I have a theory that it died from people shutting off the wall switch that the TV & DVD player power strip is plugged into instead of manually shutting off the TV with the power button.

It would be a shame to trash this TV. It looks brand new. It's $50 just to have it looked at. What would you guys recommend?

thx

$500-$600 to replace the 42" set, so why not have someone look at it? Did you buy it on an AMEX card? It adds up to a year to the warranty.
